Hollyoaks’ Romeo exit ‘sealed’ as he’s exposed as Rayne’s killer – but he won’t go to prison

Hollyoaks viewers have finally discovered who killed Rayne Royce – Romeo Nightingale.

Back in September, Rayne (Jemma Donovan) was murdered during a lavish pool party she’d thrown. The suspects immediately mounted up, with each person having a motive for wanting the social media influencer dead.

After months of speculation, her ex-boyfriend Romeo (Owen Warner) was revealed as the killer, with the moment captured with a hidden camera in Rayne’s glasses. Rayne attacked Romeo after learning he’d slept with Peri Lomax (Ruby O’Donnell) and he pushed her in the pool, killing her in self-defence.

As Romeo has been exposed as the culprit, Daily Star has quizzed one of the world’s most popular artificially intelligent “creative” tools Bard AI to see if Romeo could go to prison – but the program has other ideas. Bard AI has predicted an exit for the character, but not in the form of a prison sentence.

It responded: “Romeo’s choices after Rayne’s death could certainly lead him down a path of running from the law. The weight of potentially facing a lengthy prison sentence or even life imprisonment could drive Romeo to escape.”

The program added: “He might grapple with guilt, regret, and a desperate desire for freedom.” It suggested Romeo could face a life on the run to prevent his family and friends from enduring further pain.

It said: “Fearing the emotional toll his actions could have on his family and friends, Romeo might choose to disappear to shield them from further pain and involvement. Whether he chooses to confront his actions or become a fugitive, his journey promises to be fraught with emotional turmoil, difficult choices, and potentially life-altering consequences.”

Hollyoaks viewers were left less than impressed after Romeo was revealed as Rayne’s killer. Fans took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to fume over the reveal as they branded it “boring” and “disappointing”. One wrote: “Well that episode was more who killed Hollyoaks than who killed Rayne. Can’t see Hollyoaks surviving the year”.

A second fumed: “After weeks of who killed Rayne. We get the most boring and predictable ending”. Another weighed in: “I’m EXTREMELY disappointed with the reveal of who killed Rayne.” A third echoed: “Even lamer than expected. I was expecting a twisty Rayne-is-still-alive”.

Another agreed: “Very disappointing the writers did this. Romeo was a victim of Rayne’s physical and psychological abuse. For the writers to make the male victim of a female character the killer is gross. it ruins and stereotypes male characters. very disappointing in the end of storyline”.
