Rachel Zegler, fresh from her success in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, is back with a new disaster-comedy film titled Y2K. A first-look trailer was unveiled on Tuesday, promising fans a hilarious ride as she battles a deadly Tamagotchi.
The trailer kicks off with a boy smitten by a girl who has eyes for someone else. However, chaos ensues as the clock strikes midnight, triggering the Y2K bug.
In this extraordinary flick, all technology becomes sentient and sets out to exterminate humans. The trailer showcases an RC car equipped with Lego arms using a hairspray flamethrower on one unfortunate soul, while a Tamagotchi gruesomely drills a girl.
The primary antagonist appears to be a Playstation mascot, Polygon Man, who taunts the film’s protagonists. Alongside Rachel, the movie features IT actor Jaeden Martell and Deadpool star Julian Dennison as three teenagers celebrating New Year’s Eve 1999. The trio must unite to prevent technology from wiping out humanity and put a stop to the insanity, reports the Express.
The film is directed by actor and comedian Kyle Mooney, known for his stint on NBC’s Saturday Night Live. He also flexes his acting muscles, starring as character Garrett in the film.
Joining the main cast and Kyle are Daniel Zolghadri, Lachlan Watson, Eduardo Franco and Fred Durst.
Y2K premiered at South by Southwest in March and is set to hit US cinemas this December.
Rachel, the star of Y2K, has another film on the horizon as she recently released a trailer where she takes on the iconic role of Snow White in Disney’s live-action remake.
The upcoming flick also features Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, Andrew Burnap as Jonathan, and Ansu Kabia as the Huntsman.
Fans of Rachel are in for a double delight, with Snow White set to release just three months after Y2K’s December premiere.
Y2K releases in US cinemas on December 8. A UK release date is yet to be revealed.
