Maya Jama and Stormzy have officially called it quits for the second time. The Love Island host and rapper lovebirds admitted that they ‘tried’ – but it just wasn’t enough.
And one woman knows exactly why. Model Nova Jewels, 28, has been and done the whole reconciliation thing with ex-partners many-a-time.
She even says that she got back with her old flame more times than she’s taken her knickers off…

But, ultimately, the Scottish model – who featured on documentary Confessions of a Cam Girl – realised that she could not get the spark to reignite between herself and her past beaus.
Unlike fans of the Love Island host and the ‘Shut Up’ singer, Nova knew that Maya and Stormzy’s relationship was doomed to fail after they got back together in 2023 after four years of separation.
Speaking to exclusively to Daily Star about her correct prediction, Nova told us: “Getting back with an ex absolutely does not work.
“Take it from someone who has been there, done it and will never be seen dead doing it again. I don’t understand how people can get to a certain age and still be doing it.
“There is an entire world of human beings out there. Ones for you to connect with spiritually, mentally, and emotionally…why are you continually going back to the same person over and over?”
Presenter Maya Jama and Stormzy (real name Mike) first got together in 2014 when they were just 20 and 21. The pair were at the beginning of their now very successful careers and were “deeply in love.”
However, things turned sour in 2019 when they parted ways amidst rumours that Stormzy had been unfaithful during their relationship.
In song ‘Lessons’, he said: “I done the dirt and then I figured that you’ll dig it out.”
However he later denied cheating, saying: “Do you know what? I actually didn’t cheat. I swear to God, I didn’t cheat. So we had broken up and I was out publicly being a rapper, being very inconsiderate to the fact that I’ve just come out of the most public relationship.
“We’d broken up and I went out and I acted disrespectfully. I was just out in clubs. I knew the world still thought I was in a relationship and I was out looking like I didn’t give a f**k. It didn’t need to be cheating for it to be a disrespect.”
The pair managed to patch things up last summer but, earlier this week, they amicably released a joint statement on Instagram where they addressed their second split.
For Nova, she believes that getting back with an ex is just destined to not work out and finds the news of Maya and Stomzy to be “unbelievably predictable.”
Nova said: “When it comes to couples like Maya and Stormzy, I personally find it so boring because it’s unbelievably predictable that it’s a relationship that won’t last.
“You never know what to fully believe when it comes to relationships that are in the public eye because so many arms and legs get added on.”
A source close to the couple mentioned that the pair are on “different pages” when it comes to their futures. Maya apparently wants to focus on her career and Stormzy would like to settle down, the source told MailOnline.
Nova is not surprised if it’s true that the 29-year-old wants to focus on her career, though. Being of a similar age to Maya, the model thinks that more women want to live like “bosses” whereas men are turning “soft.”
She continued: “If the rumour is true that Stormzy wanted to settle down and have kids, but Maya wanted to work on her career, if that’s the case then I love that for her.
“I’m telling you, in this generation, the women are wanting to live like bosses. I love when a woman puts her career before anything else.”
On reflection, Nova admits that her “mindset” is totally different now. She’s amazed that going back to an ex was even an option for her – as it’s something she’d never pursue now.
But, she does believe it’s a learning curve many people have to go through to understand why dating a past lover is an absolutely terrible idea.
She candidly shared: “My mindset is so different now to what it was a couple of years ago.
“I can’t even get my head around the fact that I used to go back to exes. I was in a relationship when I was 21 and we were on and off more than my knickers.
“When you grow up and look back, you realise how ridiculous it is. It’s part of the growing up process though, so I do understand the younger generation doing it because I just hope that they will grow out of it the way that I did.”
