‘I met Liam Payne hours before his death – specific moment gave me goosebumps’

A Liam Payne fan sobbed as she recalled meeting the One Direction star before his tragic death.

Carola Gauna candidly spoke about having ‘goosebumps’ when the 31-year-old One Direction star sang to her. The pair chatted for a while and posed for a happy picture together.

Taking to TikTok to talk about the encounter, she said: “He smiled at me and sang. I got goosebumps’… I’m one of the last people he spoke to. I’m one of the last people he sang to. I went from having the happiest day of my life to one of the saddest.”

As people started inundating Carola with questions, she asked for a bit of space. She added: “Don’t write to me, don’t call me. Have some decency.”

Then in a follow-up video, Carola opened up about her devastation. She explained: “Do you understand that I still have his perfume on me? I think it’s crazy. I know he was a celebrity and he didn’t even care about me, but today I had a nice moment with him. How unfair!”

Carola’s first video has amassed 2.8 million views – and many took the time to share their words of support too. One responder wrote: “Omg I am so sorry.”

Another said: “Imagine meeting your idol and then knowing that you were one of the people who heard him sing. Oh my heart, sending strength.” And a third added: “This is so devastating.”

The former One Direction star had been in Buenos Aires before he fell from an upper floor of a hotel. He had been in Argentina to attend his former One Direction bandmate Niall Horan’s tour in Buenos Aires.

He captioned the snap: “This news is devastating, am lost for words we always had a good laugh when we saw each other, sometimes the catch ups were only short and sweet but when we did it was mostly about how annoyingly good his hair always looked, or our love for Becks, the old XF days and the tour we shared together.

“Liam shared the same passions as me, the same dreams so to see his life now end so young hits hard, I’m truly gutted and devastated for his Family and of course his son Bear losing a dad x am thinking of them! RIP Liam.”

Ex-X Factor host Dermot O’Leary also posted a sweet photo of the star. Meanwhile, Harry Styles’ mum Anne Twist paid her respects by sharing a picture of Liam with the caption: “Just a boy”.
