ITV has confirmed that the iconic “jungle I’m A Celebrity shower” is being phased out, according to GK Barry. Several celebrities, including Tulisa Contostavlos and Oti Mabuse, have expressed their discomfort at being filmed in the shower this year.
In the past, stars such as Myleene Klass, TV presenter Kate Garraway, and Katie Price have all been captured on camera. Myleene’s 2006 white bikini moment is particularly memorable.
However, GK, real name is Grace, revealed that ITV had discussed the matter with her. “They said to me that they don’t really do that anymore,” she shared, although she admitted to buying bikinis just in case.
Two celebrities, however, are adamant about not using the shower. Tulisa described it as a “little cringy” and stated she won’t be playing up to the cameras during the new series.
She explained: “I think because on a show like this, if you’re standing in the shower, everyone’s very aware that they’re being watched.”, reports the Mirror.
“So it’s like, if you overdo it, it just feels mad cringy to me. I don’t feel like Myleene, years ago, had that in mind. She just in the shower in a white bikini. She didn’t know she was going to start this whole big wow. Do you know what I mean Now it is has become a thing. If I went in there, dressed in red, giving it something, everyone’s gonna be like ‘Oh, come on Tulisa, we know what you’re doing’.
“So it just feels a little bit cringy to me. Listen, I’m springing straight black bikinis. I’m just gonna chill out. There’ll be no hip swivels for me. I can just get up with a shower and get out.”
Fellow star Oti agreed, adding: “I don’t intend on being that gal in the papers. That’s not me. I’m probably going to wear a full blown out costume with some trousers. No, I haven’t even, I haven’t planned for it.”
Tulisa’s comments come after executive producer Olly Nash revealed the shower is no longer a central element of the show. He said: “The last person that used to shower regularly naked in the nude was Brian Paddock. I can’t even remember what year that was, but he would stand there facing outwards, and it was quite a confronting sight.
“The only other person really in the last few years has been Nigel Farage, who just carried on anyway, but obviously he faced the wall. It’s funny, they[celebs] have all asked about that this year, but most people just cover themselves up. And it’s absolutely changed. I think the whole world has changed, hasn’t it? A lot over the years, and people are less likely to get in there and want to flaunt themselves.
“They ask can you shower nude, do people shower nude. And you go, you’re absolutely welcome. Obviously, you need to be respectful of everybody around you. But the choice is yours. Most people don’t. Most people wear swimmers. Most people face the wall anyway.”
I’m A Celebrity begins tonight (Sunday, November 17) on ITV at 9pm.
