“Thanks for the messages of concern, it means a lot,” he added. It didn’t take long before his famous friends and loyal legion of fans flooded to the comments to pass on their well wishes online.
His fellow I’m a Celeb co-star Fred Sirieix penned: “All the best Frankie.” Marvin Humes added: “Sorry to see Frankie! You’ll come back stronger as you always do mate! Big love [heart emoji].”
Frankie competed in the jungle last year as a late arrival to the series alongside fellow sportsman Tony Bellew. He was the first star to be eliminated but the public vote following the shock departure of Jamie Lynn Spears and Grace Dent.
The series was later won by Made In Chelsea’s Sam Thompson, as boxer Tony took second place. The star is a horseracing legend in the jockey world, known for his famous Magnificent Seven feat where he rode all seven winners on the card at Ascot in one day in 1996.
The sportsman later opened a restaurant in London’s Chelsea called Sette to celebrate his astounding achievement. Last year, fans were expecting the dad-of-five to retire from the sport. But the sportsman was determined to continue his decorated 35-year career.
Instead, Frankie decided it was time for a change. He explained that he would be moving to California with his wife Catherine – who he shares five kids with – to continue to race in the US and around the world.
The sportsman made the move in December 2003, and it appeared to be a huge success. The Italian Jockey went on to ride six winners within two weeks during his first competition after his big move.
Away from racing, Milan-born Franke – who stands at 5ft 4in – has a long career in UK media. He appeared as a captain on A Question of Sport for two years before he went on to become a housemate on Celebrity Big Brother.
He was the fifth person to be evicted. Want all the biggest Showbiz and TV news straight to your inbox? Sign up for our free Daily Star Showbiz newsletter.
