I’m A Celeb star reveals what happened to famous cockroach that got stuck up her nose

I’m A Celeb legend Fatima Whitbread revealed what happened to the cockroach which got stuck up her nose during a challenge.

Fatima, 63, exclusively spoke to Daily Star as she promoted her new book My Bright Shining Star as she opened up about her time on the show. She told us: “It was stuck up there for 40 minutes, they only showed you a quick clip.

“I said to the doctor ‘Where’s this thing coming out?’ He said ‘It could come out four places, back through the nose, your mouth, your ears, or your eyes’.

“Ant and Dec were panicking next to me, so was Pat Sharp who I was on the trial with. I had to stay calm, but there were 8,000 cockroaches in there. When they swooped up, I knew one went in immediately straight away in the trial.

“I do a lot of motivational talks and when I go around the kids are more interested in the cockroach rather than the gold medals. The kids love the cockroaches and the iconic moment.

“The cockroach first hit the ground running, like Usain Bolt, then keeled over. I took him home in a plastic bottle and took him home. The British Museum actually put it in resin for me, which was lovely. Everyone talks about the iconic moment, so of course, I kept it.”

Sporting legend Fatima took part in I’m A Celeb back in 2011 and again in 2022 for the All Stars series. Fatima also explained how her tough childhood helped her prepare for the ITV show.

Fatima was sadly abandoned as a tiny baby and placed in the care system for 14 years. She claimed this forced her to grow up quickly and gave her a leg up in the jungle.

She explained: “Some people other people would struggle not eating or sleeping but it wasn’t uncommon for me not to eat or sleep growing up, so I felt very strong in there.

“I’ve always had to learn to use mind over matter and learn to be patient and persevere because that gets you places, not brute force and shouting your mouth off.”

Fatima continues to focus her efforts on trying to improve the care system for children in the UK and works tirelessly to do so. Her new book My Bright Shining Star (£7.99) is out now and more details can be found here.
