Sue Cleaver broke the rules in camp during her series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!.
Celebs aren’t allowed to take watches or other items with them into the jungle on the ITV hit, so they have no idea what time it is on the outside. But TV star Scarlette Douglas has revealed that her fellow 2022 campmate Sue had a “cheeky secret” that gave her a little advantage over her fellow I’m A Celeb campers.
Sue, who plays Eileen Grimshaw on Coronation Street, was able to tell the time in camp using a device she used to monitor her blood sugar. The 61-year-old had good reason to bend the usual rules, too, because she has Type 2 diabetes, so it was essential she was able to keep an eye on her blood sugar levels throughout the day.

And A Place in the Sun star Scarlette said nobody clocked Sue’s secret until they exited camp. Scarlette, who is working with Sky Vegas, told Daily Star: “There is a secret [I can share] and Sue Cleaver was the culprit.

“We [even] spoke about it when we came out. Sue had to monitor her blood sugar levels and on her little monitor, it actually showed the time! When you’re in there [the camp], you’re not allowed a watch or anything, so you’ve got no idea what time it is.
“You’re trying to work out the time from where the sun is and you think it’s midday, since it is directly above us. Then we’ll try and work out roughly what time the food would get sent in, and what time you’re waking up in the morning.”

She explained they knew when it was 9am in the UK when hosts Ant and Dec descended on camp to reveal who the public had been voting for. She continued: “[When we heard] the boys [Ant & Dec] shout, ‘I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!’, we roughly knew it was nine o’clock in London because we were going live in the UK, which [we thought meant] must be this time in the jungle.

“What we then actually found out is that the jungle had its own time zone, so we were always an hour out. Sue had the time on her monitor, so here and there she would be like ‘Charlene [White], look at my sugar levels’, and we were like, ‘Why is she showing Charlene her sugar levels?’. It wasn’t until we came out that we realised – actually – she could keep an eye on the time in there, so that was a cheeky secret from Sue!”

Asked if she had any tips for this year’s campmates, Scarlette advised them to stay calm when things get tense, to avoid unnecessary rows with your campmates. She added: “My advice [for this year’s campmates] is, when you feel like you want to have a go or flip your lid – just walk away, breathe, count to 10, remember it’s a game show, and then come back to the situation.”
Scarlette joined the likes of Hollyoaks star Owen Warner, footballer Jill Scott, England rugby star Mike Tindall, Boy George and Charlene White in the jungle back in 2022. This year’s I’m A Celebrity line-up includes the likes of Strictly star Oti Mabuse, N-Dubz singer Tulisa, McFly rocker Danny Jones, Corrie star Alan Halsall and former boxer Barry McGuigan.
