A Place in the Sun star Jonnie Irwin has died aged 50 after bravely battling terminal lung cancer for three years.
His heartbroken family announced his passing in a touching Instagram post on Friday (February 2), saying: “It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of Jonnie’s passing. A truly remarkable soul, he fought bravely against cancer with unwavering strength and courage.
“Jonnie touched the lives of so many with his kindness, warmth, and infectious spirit. At this time, we kindly ask for the privacy of Jonnie’s family as they navigate through this profound loss.

“Their grief is immeasurable, and your thoughts, prayers, and support are deeply appreciated. As we remember the beautiful moments shared with Jonnie, let us celebrate a life well-lived and a legacy that will forever be etched in our hearts.
“Jonnie may be gone from our sight, but his love, laughter, and memories will live on. Rest in peace, dear Jonnie. You will be dearly missed, but never forgotten.”
It seems Jonnie spent his final days at home in Newcastle with his family – wife Jessica and their three kids Rex, three, and two-year-old twins Rafa and Cormac. In a recent Instagram video, Jonnie shared a glimpse of his home renovations.
The property expert took fans around his home in the clip, which became his final social media post. He said: “Just in from hospital, coat off, and I’ve got new windows. With a bit of a story, actually. First impressions, well look at it, no trace of dirt, dust, they’ve not even harmed the paintwork.”
In his caption, he wrote: “I was tempted to spray the remaining windows, but after interviewing someone that actually knows what they’re talking about I changed my plans . This more than any other Reno has been a fluid process!”
It turns out it was his dying wish to be surrounded by his family at home when he passed. He told HELLO!: “I really want to be at home and Jess is fine with that.
“And apparently, I’ll go peacefully when I do go. I’ll just require more and more sleep.” Jonnie added: ” I want to make memories and capture these moments with my family because the reality is, my boys are going to grow up not knowing their dad and that breaks my heart.”
A few days ago, Jonnie gave fans a look into his tough cancer treatment with a weary selfie from hospital. The 50 year old presenter showed the “look of a man who’s not slept for six nights” as he waited for a full body MRI scan.
He captioned the photo: “This is look of a man who’s not slept for 6 nights and awaiting a full body MRI scan of at least an hour. If you haven’t had one they’re claustrophobic and omit loud random noises. Joy.
“Take note on attempt of a jaunty knot on my gown! I’m expecting to come out to news of India all out 195! ##alwaystrying #mri #livingwithcancer # nhs.”
Jonnie shared earlier this year that he’s keeping upbeat despite his illness. On the Conversations with Jane McLelland podcast, he said: “One of the reasons I think I’m still here is I’m not a cancer patient. It’s always there at the back of your mind, but I’m living with cancer, not dying with cancer.”
Recently, Jonnie had a great time watching Manchester United play Tottenham Hotspur. He shared a happy photo with a mate and wrote: “Spurs away- I’ll take the drawer #manuvspurs.”
He told everyone in November 2022 about his terminal cancer, which he knew about since 2020 when doctors said he had six months left.
