Laura Tobin’s weather reporting sparked complaints from viewers after she announced that the UK is set to experience its “hottest day of the year.”
Criticism of the segment on Friday’s (July 19) episode of ITV’s Good Morning Britain came as audiences deeming its portrayal of the sweltering heat as “embarrassing”.
Weather anchor Laura Tobin was back to give the lowdown on the day’s climate outlook. However, her steering of the hot forecast drew a less than warm response when she flagged viewers to brace themselves for the heatwave.

Rain is forecasted in the UK’s north and west, whilst elsewhere is set fair for dry, sunny spells potentially hitting a whopping 31 degrees. The meteorologist stressed Britons would need to be slathering on the sunscreen to guard against the strong sunshine.
Despite this sizzling snap, Tobin alerted that it “will not last”. Pushing through to next week, we are set to be swept by cooler climes, she revealed, reports the Mirror. Though the news of sunshine came as a respite following a dreary summer, folk tuning in were miffed and vocalised their gripes about the weather segment on social media platforms.
One unimpressed viewer vented his ire on X (known previously as Twitter), posting: “#gmb will be pushing global warming next…. Good luck with that after this s*** summer.” Another chimed in, saying: “Here we go. First day of proper summer and they couldn’t wait to get the warnings out, going to p*** down tomorrow.”
‘It’s embarrassing’
Another viewer expressed their dissatisfaction, snapping back: “Bore off, this is not Africa it’s embarrassing.” Another disgruntled fan tweeted: “Bizarre weather presentation. Colours that resemble a burning fire and an average line devoid of any figures. This isn’t information, it’s propaganda and fearmongering. #gmb #weather.”
One annoyed individual quipped: “One day of sun and there a health alerts. Oh p*** off. #gmb.” Met Office weather expert Alex Burkill warned that we’re in for a “tropical night” on both Thursday and Friday, with a heat health alert in place.
He said: “Temperatures are set to rise in London. Some places will see 30C-31C which are most likely. Temperatures will stay in the high teens/ low 20s in the night between Thursday-Friday which will make it a tropical night.”
Alex then added: “There is a heat health alert issued by the UK Health Security Agency because it’s going to be hot by day and uncomfortably warm by night, particularly towards the Southeast of the UK.”
