Jonathan Majors has been sentenced after a jury found him guilty of assaulting and harassing his ex-girlfriend.
The Marvel actor has avoided jail after appearing in New York Criminal Court on February 6 after being convicted of one count of misdemeanour third-degree assault and one count of second-degree harassment, but acquitted of two other counts of assault and aggravated harassment in a split verdict after a trial back in December 2023.
He now must attend 52 weeks of an in-person battery intervention programme in Los Angeles and also continue attending therapy. Grace Jabbari read out her victim impact statement to the court and said she had been left with “extreme and emotional pain” following the assault.

Jonathan refused to testify in his defence throughout the trial and spoke to Linsey Davis for ABC News in January about the situation. He said: “I’m standing there and the verdict comes down. I say: ‘How is that possible based off the evidence, based off the prosecution’s evidence, let alone our evidence? How is that possible?’”
The charges come after an altercation with his girlfriend at the time Grace Jabbari in an SUV back in March 2023. According to the testimony from the trial, it began in the vehicle, which was located in New York City at the time, when Grace glimpsed a text message on Jonathan’s phone from another woman.
She explained that she tried to take his phone after she saw a message flash up which read: “I wish I was kissing you.” Jabbari said that the Marvel actor pulled her right hand back as she held the phone in her left hand.
In court, Jabbari recalled: “It just felt like he was twisting my arm and my hand and trying to make me feel pain.” The prosecutors showed the jury pictures which had been taken by the police which showed Grace’s injuries, including a fractured finger, a cut on her ear and bruises.
Jonathan denied the physical altercation and said: “She went to grab the phone, I held the phone, I pulled the phone back. She came on top of me, squeezed my face, slapped me. That’s all I remember.”
Majors is known for his Marvel character Kang, which has seen him star in Disney+’s Loki and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. After the verdict, Marvel has dropped his character and Majors himself from any future projects.
The upcoming Avengers movie, which was due to be sub-titled The Kang Dynasty, will also reportedly have its name changed due to the conviction. He was set to play the new villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project is now only known as Avengers 5 until a new name is decided. It suggests that Kang will be removed from the MCU, rather than be re-cast.
It is believed that, instead, MCU bosses will instead “pivot to another comic book adversary”. Fans may now instead see the likes of Fantastic Four character Dr Doom become the new Big Bad in the MCU.
