One horror film now streaming on Netflix has been branded one of the scariest in years – and it’ll keep you up all night.
The 2019 flick stars Riley Keough, Jaeden Martell and Alicia Silverstone, and it’s been hailed “terrifying” by critics. One social media user confessed they were left “speechless” by the movie, as another called it “super wild”.
The Guardian’s review said: “A film that manages to burrow its way under your skin and stay there right through to the horrifying end.” While Arizona Republic commented: “The Lodge is an exceptionally creepy horror film – and a really disturbing one.”

That film is The Lodge, which follows Keough’s character Grace as she is left stranded at a holiday village with her fiancé and his two kids. Trying her best to bond with her soon to be step-children, Grace is soon left alone with Aiden and Mia – with disastrous consequences.
Strange events begin to occur, pushing Grace towards a nervous breakdown. Soon things turn deadly – and it’s perhaps no wonder, since Grace met her soon-to-be husband while researching an extremist cult.
Reacting to the movie on X – formerly Twitter – one fan posted: “Dude I just watched The Lodge on Netflix … that sh** messed me UP. If y’all like creepy stuff that’ll mess with your head you need to watch it. It’s insane.”
Another viewer went on: “That movie The Lodge on Netflix was spooky as hell lol.” As someone else begged: “Netflix should make a spin-off show about The Lodge!”
The film earned $3.2million internationally, and boasts a 75% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. But it’s not the only film that has “ruined” the end of the festive season for fans – with one short film leaving them totally spooked.
That flick is The Disappearance of Willie Bingham, based on a short story by Michael L. Fawcett. It follows an Australian convict who is the first to undergo a radical new punishment; instead of execution, his body parts are amputated one by one.
Willie starts by going under the knife to have one hand removed, before gradually all his limbs are taken off – along with his namesake genitals, his nose and his ears. At each stage, the family of his victim – a young schoolgirl – are given the choice whether the surgery goes ahead or not.

Fans were left truly spooked, with one warning: “Damn I might have just watched one of the DARKEST films on YouTube. It’s called The Disappearance Of Willie Bingham. Viewer Discretion is advised.”
Another echoed: “Made the mistake of watching The Disappearance of Willie Bingham last night and it’s ruined my Christmas [sad emoji]. Such a good little dystopian tale though!” As somebody else said the flick is “bleak as hell”.
