Netflix fans ‘messed up for days’ after watching thriller set in creepy basement

Netflix fans have been left shaken up by one intense thriller.

The original post in Netflix Bangers’ Facebook group said that the film was “pretty good” but down in the comments, Split fans were clearly blown away by the flick. One person admitted: “I watched this a few days ago and I’m still messed up,” while another keen fan wrote: “This film is a 10/10 all day everyday. The acting is beyond incredible.”

Others praised James McAvoy’s acting, branding him “phenomenal” and “absolutely fantastic”. Another Netflix user typed: “You have to watch them all, they are all good.”

A third comment read: “Incredibly well done, James McAvoy absolutely nailed every identity.” Split was released back in 2016 and directed and produced by M. Night Shyamalan. The film stars James McAvoy, Anna Taylor Joy and Betty Buckley among the cast.

James McAvoy was praised by viewers

The chilling thriller follows a man, played by McAvoy, who struggles with dissociative identity disorder. He kidnaps three young girls, one played by Taylor Joy, and imprisons them in his basement filled with a complex labyrinth of rooms and corridors.

Split is known as a standalone sequel to Shyamalan’s smash hit Unbreakable, which was released back in 2000 and is the first instalment in the Unbreakable series of films. It features Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson, who reprise their roles for the third installment Glass, released in 2019.

Anna plays one of the main characters

Shyamalan’s Split was not marketed as a sequel to Unbreakable, but a scene in the film sees Bruce Willis star in an uncredited cameo which alludes to the link. In Split, McAvoy plays a whole host of characters through his role as Kevin.

Their names include Kevin Wendell Crumb, Dennis, Patricia, Hedwig, Barry, Orwell, Jade and The Beast. The final personality is a cannibal with an appetite for human flesh and superhuman strength.

Anna Taylor Joy stars as Casey Cooke, one of the girls Kevin traps in his basement. She is a teenager who has experienced self-harming habits and is a sexual assault survivor.

M. Night Shyamalan also has a role in the film as Jai the security guard, while Betty Buckley plays Karen Fletcher, Kevin’s psychologist.
