Rapper Nicki Minaj stunned fans with a Royal tribute during her UK gig last night as she paused to remember her “dear friend” Princess Diana.
Nicki, hitting the stage at Birmingham’s Resorts World Arena, expressed her fondness for the late Princess of Wales who tragically died when the star was just a teen. The 41 year old rapper slipped into her Martha Zolanski persona complete with a mock British accent and asked the hyped-up audience to fall silent for a moment in honour of Diana, who passed away 26 years ago.

Rocking ripped jeans and vibrant hot-pink silk gloves, Nicki belted out to her fans: “Wales – it always reminds me of a dear friend of mine – well she’s not here anymore, but the Princess of Wales. Let’s have a moment of silence for her.”
The heartfelt mention is likely linked to Nicki’s 2023 banger ‘Princess Diana’ where she teams up with Ice Spice. Despite the song’s success, the crowd didn’t see the homage coming, with social media users on X/Twitter buzzing about the unexpected moment.
One fan quipped: “A dear friend of mine… She was 14 when Diana died…” While another commented on the brevity of the silence: “The way the minute’s silence was 3 and a half seconds.”
Another concertgoer chimed in: “I was there last night. such a moment.”
Nicki Minaj has been stirring up a storm across Europe, and her latest escapade saw her nicked by Amsterdam’s finest for allegedly carrying “soft drugs”, a claim she fiercely refuted to her online followers.
The ‘Super Bass’ hitmaker ended up doing time in a Dutch cell for a good five or six hours before being let out scot-free. This little stint with the law meant Nicki missed her flight to England, leaving fans at Manchester’s Co-Op Live Arena without their queen.
But ever the diva, Nicki didn’t leave her Barbz hanging and hosted a last-minute meet-up at her hotel on Sunday night to apologise to her followers.
