Only Fools and Horses fans may be longing for another episode but sadly it may not happen.
Sir David Jason, 83, recently confessed he’d love to play Derek ‘Del Boy’ Trotter one last time, but with the passing of the show’s creator John Sullivan, it may never happen. However, it’s not just John’s death that’s stopping Only Fools and Horses from returning to our screens.
Sir David and his former co-star Nicholas Lyndhurst, 62, have lost touch despite once being close. The pair, famous for playing market trader brothers Del Boy and Rodney Trotter, haven’t spoken since filming a charity special in 2014.

But the tension between them might have started long before, with Sir David recalling an on-set “row” from the 1980s that left a producer “fuming”. He went on to say: “‘I never want to work with you’. The whole crew went stiff. Five minutes later, the producer and director came to see me, shaking in their boots.
“They asked what was happening and I told them to go see Nick. When they did, I couldn’t hold back my laughter any longer. Their faces turned from white to purple. I don’t think the producer was too pleased.”
Despite staging this “row” in the late eighties, Sir David and Nicholas’ close friendship faded over time – even though they had previously confessed to being good mates off the Only Fools and Horses set. Sir David once said in an interview: “You couldn’t have had a better co-partner than Nic. We liked and respected each other so much, we were genuinely good friends.”
Similarly, Nicholas told Red Carpet News in 2017: “We had a very similar work ethic and ethos – that we wanted to do our best as quickly as possible. You didn’t have very long to record an episode […] We didn’t have much time to rehearse it so we had to have each other’s back.”
However, by 2022, things had clearly changed. Sir David confessed in an interview that he and Nicholas no longer chat, admitting: “He’s much more, how can I say, self-contained, perhaps, than he used to be. So, unfortunately, we don’t see each other as much as I’d like to. But that’s how things work out sometimes.”

Nicholas has reportedly kept a low profile since the tragic death of his 20 year old son Archie in 2020, who sadly passed away from a brain haemorrhage caused by acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. Sir David expressed his sadness over not doing the series together anymore, stating: “I miss it terribly. It wasn’t like going to work. It was going to have some fun with your mates. We loved each other.”
