Richard Madeley and Judy show signs of ‘new relationship’ after 37 years of marriage

Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan are more loved-up than ever and appear to be in a ‘new relationship’ even after 37 years of marriage.

The couple, who wed in 1986, were recently spotted looking very affectionate in recent snaps. Body language expert Darren Stanton has dubbed them “soulmates” and explains that they’ve managed to keep their spark alive for nearly four decades.

The duo were seen holding hands in sweet photos during a visit to a local spot in Hampstead to celebrate their recent anniversary. Speaking for Spin Genie, expert Darren pointed out that unlike many celebrity couples, Richard and Judy ‘aren’t shy about showing affection in public’ and seem very ‘happy and comfortable’ doing so.

Darren further analysed the ‘intimacy’ of their handhold, noting that Richard’s palm was on top of Judy’s – a gesture he says is usually seen in new relationships. He spotted the high level of affection they’re displaying, which he terms as ‘reciprocal liking’, calling it a ‘significant’ sign for a couple who’ve been together for such a long time.

Stanton believes the snaps reveal the couple are “comfortable in their own skin” and “happier than ever before”. He explained: “These two have been a really strong couple for decades, and the photos really make that clear, certainly the hand holding.

“Richard has his palm on top of Judy’s – it’s not a mutual hand hold. Basically, although she’s the dominant person in the relationship, he’s taking the lead here and it’s quite a passionate hand hold.”, reports the Mirror. “It’s not just a normal hand hold. When someone’s palm is on top, it’s more of a passionate, more intimate handhold – the kind of handhold you tend to see in newer relationships.”

The expert also claims that Richard and Judy are happier than ever before. They said: “They’re celebrating their 37th wedding anniversary, and for them to be displaying what we call ‘reciprocal liking’, at this point in their relationship is really significant. You don’t tend to see many relationships, with this many miles on the clock, displaying these sorts of gestures.”

They added: “There’s a couple of shots where Judy looks quite glum but she’s not known for smiling all the time. In terms of body language, they’re still very much together as they always were, the interactions sitting at the table, being filmed, show that.”

“If two people have been in a relationship for that length of time, they don’t need to be all over each other and lovey dovey all the time. It’s also about each person being comfortable in their own skin, and that’s very much what Richard and Judy are.

“Even though they’re a powerful, former media couple, they’re still very happy to be seen out and about together. They’re not adverse to displaying affection in public, which many celebrity couples are. Richard and Judy are quite happy to be comfortable in their own skin, showing affection and I don’t see anything contradicting the fact that they are soulmates.”
