Robbie Williams ‘unrecognisable’ as Soccer Aid fans go wild for singer’s new look

Soccer Aid made a triumphant return on Sunday night (June 9), with a host of big names gracing the pitch.

The ITV charity match, which took place at Stamford Bridge in 2024, saw a plethora of A-listers come together to raise millions for Unicef. Since its inception in 2006, the event has raised a staggering £90million for the charity, aiding those in need in countries like Cambodia.

The star-studded line-up for the charity special event included names like Paddy McGuinness, Erin Doherty, Danny Dyer and Bobby Brazier representing the England team. On the other hand, the World XI team boasted names such as Roman Kemp, Usain Bolt, Tommy Fury, Martin Compston and Lee Mack.

Unicef UK ambassador Dermot O’Leary returned to the helm and hosted Soccer Aid alongside his co-host Alex Scott. Meanwhile Sam Matterface returned as commentator alongside Love Island narrator Iain Stirling.

But one famous face that forced fans to do a double take was Robbie Williams who debuted a dramatic new look on the field. The 50-year-old musician took on the role of team captain for the England team.

The Angels hitmaker regularly appeared on screen, offering words of encouragement and advice to the celebrity players on the pitch. The dad-of-four could be seen rocking a navy-blue suit which he paired with a white T-shirt and black shoes.

He embraced his silver locks which he styled into a grey mohawk and accessorised his ensemble with a pair of dramatic black glasses. Taking to X – formerly known as Twitter – fans showered his with compliments online.

One user penned: “Robbie Williams looks so different these days. I wouldn’t have recognised him if it wasn’t #socceraid.” Another agreed: “Robbie really suits the grey hair. #socceraid #robbiewilliams”.

A third chimed in with: “Only just twigged that bloke with the glasses is Robbie Williams #SoccerAid” while another added: “Ooo Robbie Williams looking gorgeous in glasses! #SoccerAid.”

This year, Sam Thompson, EastEnders ’ Bobby Brazier and The Crown star Erin made their debuts on the England team. Since commenting in 2006, England have won five times, with their last victory in 2018.

Soccer Aid World XI have won seven times and last year saw them take the champion title for the fifth year on the run. But on Sunday, the England team broke their winning streak when they won the charity match.

Money raised from the event will help Unicef protect children from disease and malnutrition as well as supporting their mental health and assisting during times of crisis in war-torn countries.
