Sally Nugent missing from BBC Breakfast following intense election night stint

BBC Breakfast rotated its line-up once again on Monday morning, with usual anchor Sally Nugent noticeably absent from the famous red sofa.

Jon Kay returned to host the show, yet Sarah Campbell sat beside him, a regular weekend presenter stepping in during weekdays. There was no sight of Sally on the programme.

Sally’s absence follows her recent contributions to covering the UK’s General Election last week. Taking a leaf out of Naga Munchettys book, Sally offered timely updates as the results came flooding in on Thursday, July 4.

She was stationed at Sunderland, an area often first to declare votes and boasting a rich electoral history. Meanwhile, her co-hosts Clive Myrie and Laura Keunssberg controlled the fort back at the studio.

The previous week, we saw Sally temporarily leave BBC Breakfast for two days towards the end of June. As usual, Sarah was present to cover for her, reports the Express.

Jon Kay kept fans up-to-date about the presenter change on Instagram on June 26. He shared an image of himself, Sarah, and their colleague Ben Boulos, all in the studio.

His caption read: “Good morning from your BBC Breakfast team. Lovely to have Sarah with us – covering for Sally this week. It was exactly a year ago today that we moved into our lovely new studio.”

Amidst the celebrations, the team revealed: “Over the last twelve months our team has interviewed hundreds of guests on the sofa, covered thousands of stories and last month welcomed the BBC News at One to join us in Salford. Happy Birthday studio! “.

In sync with the festivities, fans couldn’t help but express their shock at how quickly a year had passed. One awed Instagram user exclaimed: “Good god a year already? Where has the time gone! Happy Birthday SQ0.”

Compliments from viewers also poured in, with one fan praising Sarah’s casual and warm disposition: “The nicest news presenter on morning Tv. Lovely smile super dress code and relaxed. No straight face and sitting bolt upright. Great way to start the day.”
