Dancing On Ice star Greg Rutherford has revealed how a ghostly experience in the middle of the night encouraged him to move house.
The former Olympian was left shaken after something spooky forced him out of his slumber. Greg, 37, says: “”t was one of the most terrifying experiences of my life. I was at my old house and remember seeing what looked like this grotesque woman coming out of the wall towards me. I screamed the house down and couldn’t move because I was half asleep.
“I woke my poor fiancée Susie up, who was in an absolute panic. As I came to properly, there was nothing there. Still to this day, who knows? Maybe there was some form of ghost in the house. We moved – maybe that was the house telling me I needed to get out.”

Now balancing on blades instead of leaping into the sandpit, the former track and field athlete – who specialised in the long jump – wants Dancing On Ice’s bosses to throw him the biggest stunts.

The show returns on Sunday (January 14), with Holly Willoughby back on screen for the first time since quitting This Morning and her pal Stephen Mulhern taking over from former co-host Phillip Schofield. Last year Olympic artistic gymnast Nile Wilson won the skating show with pro partner Olivia Smar and Greg is on a mission to ensure sporting success continues for another series.
He says: “I’m really keen to get to some serious tricks and things on the show. It’s going to take time but the plan is to do something amazing on it.” While his legs have been put through new paces training with his pro partner Vanessa James, it’s proving an empowering fresh challenge for Greg – who has also appeared on Strictly.

Other celebs taking part this year include retired boxer Ricky Hatton, actor Ryan Thomas and former S Club singer Hannah Spearritt.
Greg says: “I absolutely love skating and am having so much fun with it. I skated a bit as a kid and that’s helped me on one level because I could stand up on the ice and go forwards, but I couldn’t go backwards or stop very well. Physical challenges I love – every one. I did Sink Or Swim, where I had to learn to swim to cross the Channel with other people, Strictly… I’ve done lots of different challenges.”
The 37-year-old, who was crowned Celebrity MasterChef champion in 2019, found learning his way around the kitchen his biggest challenge to date and harder than skating. Dad-of-three Greg says: “MasterChef for me was always the most important one I’ve ever done because I learned to cook and have been developing that.

“I like to think I am a good cook now as I spend a lot of time learning and I really enjoy it. With skating, I’m going to take from it that I
can now skate and I can teach my children. You find a new love for what is an incredible new sport and we’re famous for Torvill and Dean, of course, who are on the show. It’s one that I’m embracing fully and want to do as well as I possibly can on it. That gives me a strong mindset to really push it, plus it’s a lot of fun.”
