Usher not paid for Super Bowl halftime show despite star-studded performance

In possibly the highest-profile gig of his career, Usher performed in front of a roaring crowd during the Super Bowl halftime show.

However, his financial reward didn’t match the stature of the stage. Every year, millions of viewers gather around their TV screens to watch the famous American Football match unfold. However, while sport is undeniably at the core, the match-up itself is always drowned out with a plethora of commercials and star-studded music acts.

On this occasion, the Kansas City Chiefs triumphed over the San Francisco 49ers by a score of 25-22 in a match that captured the imagination of the fans. However, while supporters were overjoyed with the sporting spectacle on the field, the casual viewers are still struggling to get over Usher’s outrageous display.

But despite putting together a line-up that will undoubtedly stand the test of time, Usher hardly worked away from the performance with an enormous amount of cash. The NFL actually stand by the motto ‘It pays in exposure’.

With over 100 million people tuning in for the sporting extravaganza, this is likely true. Like acts before him, Usher is expecting his music sales to go through the roof, thus earning him enough revenue to make the performance more than worth his while.

And it couldn’t have come at a more convenient time for the artist, who just dropped his latest album ‘Coming Home’. It goes without saying that the 45-year-old will be expecting a significant increase in downloads and an enormous amount of fans queuing up to attend his ‘Present Past Future’ tour.
