Wheel Of Fortune’s former ‘glamorous assistant’ Carol Smillie has shared a throwback snap from her time on the show – amid its reboot.
The iconic programme made its return to screens on Saturday night (January 6) on ITV after a two-decade hiatus. The original programme ran for a huge 14 series on ITV between 1988 and 2001.
Graham Norton is fronting the new series – which follows the same premise as before. However, one notable change, was that the show has scrapped their ‘glamorous assistants.’

Back in the day, the host was accompanied by a female presenter, such as the likes of Jenny Powell and Carol Smillie. They then turned the letters around while they asked the questions.
And with the show back on screens, Carol herself appeared to be feeling a little nostalgic at the weekend. Taking to her Instagram on Sunday (January 7) she uploaded a throwback snap from her time on the show.
In the picture, a fresh-faced Carol posed next to then-host Nicky Campbell. She wrote in the caption: “It’s back! Wishing Graham Norton all the very best with the reboot. I’m willing to bet that wheel wasn’t held together with elastic bands any more.”
Fans were quick to rush to the comments section with a flood of compliments. One person gushed: “Look at you two beauties!”
A second penned: “The hottest assistant there ever was on the show.” A third quipped: “Bonnie lass back then and now.”
Fans watching the reboot last weekend were not too happy to find out there were no longer any ‘glamorous assistants.’ On X, formerly known as Twitter, one person said: “Kinda miss the woman that used to turn the tiles over.”

Someone else added: “There’s nobody turning the letters round? I’m out.” A third complained: “No Powell or Smilie….format ruined.” Another penned: “No letter turner ffs.”
Other fans were liking the reboot though. One person gushed: “Already loving it. So so good.,” as someone else penned: “The set looks decent, contestants look normal ish, could be a good reboot.”
News of Wheel Of Fortune’s returned was confirmed last year. Graham at the time said he was “beyond excited” to bring back the “iconic” show. He added: “My first ever TV job was a game show on ITV so this feels like coming full circle. You might even call it a wheel!”
