X-Men and Netflix star Adan Canto dies aged 42 following appendicial cancer battle

Actor Adan Canto has sadly died aged 42 after a battle with appendiceal cancer.

The Mexican-American star was perhaps best known for his role in the Fox series The Cleaning Lady. He also appeared in X-Men and Designated Survivor.

Canto’s publicist wrote: “Actor Adan Canto died on Jan 8 2024 of appendiceal caner. Adan had a depth of spirit that few truly knew. Those who glimpsed it were changed forever. He leaves behind his wife, best friend and creative partner Stephanie Ann Canto, as well as his two greatest works of art, Roman Alder, three-and-a-half years of age, and Eve Josephine, one-and-a-half years of age. He will be greatly missed by so many.”

According to Deadline, Adan’s diagnosis meant he was not able to return to filming for season three of The Cleaning Lady, which began in December.

Adan’s publicist announced the news

It has been reported that the series will pay tribute to Adan with a memorial card during the season three premiere, which is set to air Tuesday March 5 8/7c.

Before he starred in The Cleaning Lady, Canto starred opposite Kiefer Sutherland in the thriller Designated Survivor as vice president-elect Aaron Shore.

Canto leaves behind his wife and two children

His first major role came in 2013 in Kevin Bacon’s crime drama The Following, and he appeared in ABC’s Mixology soon after.

Canto also had roles in Blood & Oil and Second Chance before starring in season one of Netflix’s critically acclaimed series Narcos. On the silver screen, Adan’s biggest role was Sunspot in X-Men: Days of Future Past.

He also acted in 2 Hearts, Bruised and Agent Game. Canto was born in Ciudad Acuña, Coahulia, Mexico and grew up in Del Rio, Texas.

He starred in a number of high profile projects

It has been reported that Adan had an interest in music early on and wrote songs for Mexican TV shows. His first TV role was on Estado de Gracia back in 2009 and he has also previously starred in a stage adaptation of Pedro Almodovar’s All About My Mother.

Canto has also directed two short films titled Before Tomorrow and The Shot.
