Brit actor Ray Winstone has swapped England for Sicily as as he enters semi-retirement. The Sexy Beast icon has starred in a number of acclaimed films, including Nil By Mouth, Scum and The Departed.

But now he is 68 years-old, he is spending more and more time at his villa in Sicily with his wife Elaine. Although he is enjoying winding down he isn’t ready to permanently relocate to Italy yet.

This is because his three daughters, who include actress Jaime Winstone, and his grandchildren are all still in England. He said: “I’m backwards and forwards from here to Sicily.

“My family is here in England; my kids are here.

“But when we get a chance me and Elaine have a little scoot.

“I’m 68 now, I want to rest in the sun … I’m getting old ain’t I.”

Ray is content to work less, although he will still take on a role if he receives a good script or he needs to pay the taxman.

The actor – who is starring in the next series of Netflix crime drama The Gentlemen, reprising his role as Bobby Glass – said: “I’ve got one or two other projects that I’ve read, but they’re in the queue to be made.

“Good scripts come along very rarely, with good dialogue and good stories.

“Sometimes you have to do a job to pay the rent.

“But I’ve read three really good ones lately and if they come off I’ll be very happy.

“You know when you read them, it’s not a question of turning them down, it’s thank you, I’m not interested.”

He added: “But then there’s other times when you read something you’re not quite sure about but you need to pay the rent, so you will go and do that, you have to do that.

“It’s part and parcel of it; the taxman needs to be paid. B******! But there you go.”

“It’s coming less but it’s always there. Sometimes they’re not bad but it’s just not for you, you don’t like it.

“But when you read something you have to look at it that a man has put his life and soul, or a woman’s put her life and soul, into writing that. So you have to give it the respect it deserves just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean it’s not very good.”
