Aerosmith legend Steven Tyler admits he felt “ashamed for a moment” after putting the moves on his actress daughter Liv’s famous friend Cameron Diaz and asking her out
Steven Tyler has admitted he once hit on Cameron Diaz – and got it in the neck from his famous daughter Liv.
The legendary Aerosmith frontman turned 77 today (March 26). The rocker admitted fancying the stunning A-lister, who shot to fame in The Mask in the 1990s and has since returned to the screen after ten years off.
The only problem is, Diaz is a friend of his Lord of the Rings star daughter Liv, and he soon paid the consequences. Steven recalled the awkward interaction during a game of Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts with Late Late Show host James Corden in 2018.
The segment involved guests choosing to either share a risky truth about themselves or eat something disgusting from the table. At first, Steven picked up a dried caterpillar before deciding to be honest with James, who had asked him if he’d ever hit on one of his daughters’ friends.
“Yes I have,” admitted Tyler. “And I got a lot of s*** for it too.” Tyler was leaving a party thrown by designer Stella McCartney with Liv and and Cameron when he offered to take Cameron out.
Recalling the moment, he said: “I look at this beautiful woman. I said, ‘Cameron, should you ever need someone to take you to the movies or you know, like, if I was to, you know, ask you to show me around London…'”
“And of course, Liv went, ‘Daddy, you’re hitting on my best girlfriend!’ And I got ashamed for a moment.” The rocker, who has been in rehab several times, also revealed he’d spent over $2million on drugs during his life.
Aerosmith seemingly announced their retirement from touring last year after Tyler fractured his larynx and damaged his vocal cords. The band formed in 1970 had been due to wow fans on their farewell tour but had to drop out of it weeks before hitting the road.
They wrote: “It was 1970 when a spark of inspiration became Aerosmith. Thanks to you, our Blue Army, that spark caught flame and has been burning for over five decades. Some of you have been with us since the beginning and all of you are the reason we made rock ‘n’ roll history.
“It has been the honor of our lives to have our music become part of yours. In every club, on every massive tour and at moments grand and private you have given us a place in the soundtrack of your lives.”
Referring to Steven’s injury, they continued: “We’ve always wanted to blow your mind when performing. As you know, Steven’s voice is an instrument like no other. He has spent months tirelessly working on getting his voice to where it was before his injury.
“We’ve seen him struggling despite having the best medical team by his side. Sadly, it is clear, that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible. We have made a heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary, decision – as a band of brothers – to retire from the touring stage.”
The band concluded: “We are grateful beyond words for everyone who was pumped to get on the road with us one last time. Grateful to our expert crew, our incredible team and the thousands of talented people who’ve made our historic runs possible.
“A final thank you to you – the best fans on planet Earth. Play our music loud, now and always. Dream On. You’ve made our dreams come true.”
It comes after the band postponed their tour last September because Steven’s vocal injury. They admitted Tyler’s vocal issues were “more serious than initially thought”.
