Actor Iain Robertson has been accused of rape and abusive behaviour involving four women.

The accusations made against him span 16 years, from January 2004 to April 2020, and he denies all of the claims made against him.

Robertson is best known for playing Stevie O’Hara in River City, but also for his work in Grange Hill, The Debt Collector and Small Faces.

Alongside the rape charge, he is accused of engaging in coercive and controlling behaviour including psychological manipulation.

Prosecutors claim Robertson’s alleged misconduct including kicking household objects, grabbing a woman by her neck, sending her unwanted gifts, continuously messaging and calling her as well as attempting to intimidate so she wouldn’t call the police.

The BBC has not commented on the allegations made against him.

According to the indictment Robertson is accused of breach of the peace and assault against one woman. The accusation involves shouting, swearing, making offensive remarks and pouring wine over her.

More charges include two assaults and threatening behaviour toward a different woman over the span of three years.

He is accused of controlling her movements, isolating her from loved ones, persistently contacting her and of sending unwanted gifts to where she worked. The same woman claims he lunged at her, caused her to fall and dragged her by her hair.

A fourth woman has accused him of abusive conduct, claiming he behaved aggressively, made sexual comments and physically pushed her.

Defence lawyer Gary Allan KC has confirmed a special defence of consent has been submitted for one of the charges and issued a statement: “A joint minute of agreed evidence has been settled between parties and Mr Robertson pleads not guilty.”

Both sides have reportedly set the trial date for June 2026 at Glasgow’s High Court. The upcoming hearing is expected to last for six days.
