BBC Comic Relief viewers demand ‘make it stop’ after fans left furious with same compliant

BBC viewers were left unimpressed on Friday night by the decision to show an old clip as Red Nose Day is famed for it’s brand new comedy every year

Comic Relief viewers were left a bit puzzled when the annual charity telethon aired live on Friday night.

The star-studded line-up of hosts included Alison Hammond, Davina McCall, Alesha Dixon, Jonathan Ross, AJ Odudu, Rylan Clark, Joel Dommett and Tom Allen, who all kicked off the programme with a dance to celebrate 40 years of the charity event.

However, fans weren’t too chuffed with BBC’s decision to air an old clip, given that Red Nose Day is known for its fresh comedy content each year.

Viewers took to social media to vent their frustration after spotting a recycled clip during the live show. The Beeb chose to air a 16-year-old sketch featuring James Corden from back in the day.

The actor, now 46, reprised his Gavin and Stacey character Smithy in the comedy skit where he gives the England team, including David Beckham, a pep talk. This originally aired way back in 2009.

One viewer grumbled on social media: “25mins into Comic Relief and they are already showing 15-year-old sketches,” reports the Express.

Another echoed the sentiment, saying: “Good God, they’ve unearthed a 16-year-old sketch with Corden in a fruitless effort that a generation has passed and the current one may find amusing.

“I remember when Comic Relief used to be a huge night on telly when I was a kid. Watched for 10 minutes tonight and all it’s been is rehashed footage from previous years,” a third viewer moaned.

“Why are they just replaying old sketches when there is so much comedy talent in this country? Somebody please explain?” a fourth viewer demanded.

A fifth simply pleaded: “Make it stop #ComicRelief.”
