BBC presenter caught making naughty gesture on-air after awkward blunder

BBC South Today’s weather presenter Alexis Green was fuming with herself after stumbling over her words, but unfortunately for her, the cameras were left rolling

A BBC News presenter was caught mocking themselves on camera after stumbling over their words.

Even the most experienced of presenters suffer the odd blunder from time to time. One hilarious example came back in 2023, when BBC News presenter Maryam Moshiri flipped off the camera, unaware she was already live on-air. She suffered another amusing error this year before referencing the popular comedy movie Anchorman.

Wednesday’s (April 23) instalment of BBC South Today saw weather presenter Alexis Green appear in Oxford to comment on recent floods in the area. During the live segment, Alexis said: “Residents here have learnt to live with flooding over the years and some say the 2007 floods were the worst they’ve ever experienced.”

However, soon after this everything appeared to unravel.

She went on: “Now, with a warming climate rainfall is expected to become heavier and more persistent in the future, which is why people here have taken matters into their own home – own hands – to basically protect their homes and their businesses.'”

Straight after she stopped talking, the presenter appeared to think the cameras stopped rolling. She looked off the side of the camera and pulled a face and pointed towards herself in a bizarre action.

Viewers noticed Alexis’ TV blunder and flocked to social media to share their thoughts. On X, someone wrote: “@AlexisGreenTV on #BBCSouthToday was on a live broadcast but her VT cut in a second too late so we saw her reaction to her word fumble earlier”

Another added: “@AlexisGreenTV we love you as much as we love live TV.”

A third noted: “@BBCSouthToday words just didn’t flow well and it showed at the end of the edit #blooper @AlexisGreenTV.” A fourth said: “People have taken matters into their own homes ha into their own hands.”

“‘A serious subject Alexis but you did make me laugh out loud!!” penned a fifth.

Maryam Moshiri produced a similar reaction when she flipped off the camera while presenting BBC News. The 46-year-old mum-of-three, who is one of the broadcaster’s chief presenters, seemed unaware the cameras were already rolling.

However, she quickly realised she was live-on-air and snatched her hand away before starting to read the latest headlines about former Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Switching it up to a very serious tone, she said: “Live from London, this is BBC News.”

One social media user said: “Looks like someone had to make it to work without their morning coffee.” Meanwhile, another said: “That’s hilarious! She immediately regretted that decision.”
