In the last letter he ever wrote, The Beatles icon George Harrison told Hollywood legend Mike Myers that he used a Dr Evil doll to speak for him after he lost his voice at the end of his life
George Harrison used a very unusual way to communicate.
Toward the end of his life, Beatle George Harrison sadly lost his voice while he was ill and actor Mike Myers went on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to explain how he spoke without speaking, by using a doll of his famous Austin Powers villain Dr Evil.
He told the host: “I see George Harrison has died, I started crying. This is the worst day of my life,” before explaining that he got a present from a security guard on set.
“I got a knock on the door and at the end of it, he said: Here, this is the last letter George Harrison ever wrote. To you! It said: Dear Mike. I’ve been looking all over Europe for a Mini-me doll but I haven’t found one yet.”
He said that he “knew Mike’s parents were from Liverpool,” and Mike said that the letter is now “framed in his house”. He went on to say: “It’s so incredibly amazing. I was told when he was in meetings with The Beatles, The Beatles had to get together and have board meetings.”
“[George] had lost his voice because he was ill and he had a Dr Evil doll. He would pull the chord and say: ‘Why must I be surrounded by frickin’ idiots?!”
Myers gestured that it blew his mind, said the anecdote was “the greatest thing” and that he “didn’t have words”. He finished the interview by saying: “George was the man!”
Down in the comment section, fans commented on his story as one person wrote: “It’s great how his Lorne Michaels voice at 3:13 is basically Dr. Evil.” Another joked: “Wow! Mike Myers does a really good Dr. Evil impression!”
“I gotta say as a Brit Mike Myers does us proud he totally gets us from our music to our humour. I’ve never been so proud to be British than when I saw our flag on his pants in Austin Powers! Also the fact he’s clearly a massive Queen fan makes me love him more,” said another impressed fan.
