Britain’s Got Talent returned for the beginning of their live semi finals, with a range of acts taking to the stage to battle for their place – but fans had more than a few choice words
Britain’s Got Talent returned for the live semi finals with a selection of seven acts from the auditions – but fans were quick to brand it the ‘worst show on TV’ after several technical hiccups.
From delayed acts to ‘golden disappointments’, BGT viewers were quick to share their disappointed thoughts on social media during the show, which saw singer Vinnie McKee voted through to the finals. Adding to this, Amanda Holden used her live show golden buzzer to send through light show act, The BlackOuts.
The hit ITV talent show returned to the Eventim Apollo tonight for the first live semi-final of the series, with a range of interesting acts performing for a spot in the grand final. This included a man who previously generated 771 Ofcom complaints.
Firstly, the show was opened by dinosaur rockers Heavysaurus, the hosts explained that the second act, Teddy Magic, “wasn’t ready” to perform. Instead, they spoke to the judges about the previous act.
“Now, Teddy isn’t quite ready backstage yet. He hasn’t got his magic up and ready yet, so we’ll chat to you judges,” Ant said, while Dec shared that they were going to have a “little change of plan”.
“Just while he gets himself ready and composed backstage,” Ant added. The judges were shocked at the earlier announcement. Simon previously enquired: “Hang on, so the act’s not ready? It’s okay, it’s live,” with Ant quipping: “And he’s only eight years old, so back off, man!”
After having a chat with the judges, Dec explained that they would be moving onto the third act, Vinnie McKee, instead, saying: “We’re gonna have a little change of plan now. We’re going to go to something else and come back to Teddy later on.”
Later, it was announced that Teddy would not return to stage, but will hopefully be returning to the live shows in the coming weekends.
Ant and Dec were forced to cut the live shows early, and brought forward the performance of Tina Turner the Musical.
After the first announcement regarding Teddy, another hiccup marred the the live show. It faced another disturbance when dance troupe The Blackouts were delayed due to a technical problem.
“Now, you are not going to believe this. We’re not quite ready,” Dec said as the judges jumped out of their seats in shock.
“We’re got a bit of a technical problem with the Blackouts, and while we sort that out, we’re going to have a chat with our judges again.”
The issue was resolved within a minute, however, leaving the Swedish light show to resume and achieve Amanda’s golden buzzer.
But the golden buzzer was another area of disappointment for viewers, who claimed it was “unfair.”
Traditionally, this buzzer has been used in the auditions to ensure a chosen act makes it through to the live shows. Now, judges can each hand pick one act they wish to see in the final, too.
Each judge, plus Ant and Dec, will get a chance the use the buzzer every Saturday night. ITV said: “In each semi-final, either one of the judges or Ant and Dec will be given control of the golden buzzer, and as soon as they see a performance worthy of a place in the final, they will have just one opportunity to press it.”
One viewer noted: “I think the new format is really flawed. Amanda pressured to press the golden buzzer so early on makes means acts don’t get a fair chance. The acts so far are not really special or deserving of a golden buzzer.”
Auzzy Blood also made his on-screen return tonight. His act includes sticking items up his nose and down his throat, which didn’t leave many impressed. “Thought you were a family-friendly show…that was horrendous,” noted an online fan.
Elsewhere, a Japanese stripping act caught the attention of many.
As for tonight’s show (Saturday, April 26) BGT was the centre of criticism for a performance which many claim “had its time.”
One user on X wrote: “The kids are going to need therapy after tonight seeing a Japanese man’s k*** and now this,” in reference to Auzzy Blood’s act.
Another added: “I remember when the golden buzzer was used for stand out act, it was seen as a privilege back in the day. Now it’s just given out like sweets and the buzzer has completely lost its purpose.” Another agreed: “The golden buzzer should be pressed at the end when all of the acts have performed.”
A fourth noted: “This is an absolute s***show. It’s so badly put together. Judges not having a clue what to say, the audience screeching over everyone, acts not being ready on time and/or being s***.”
One user was particularly complimentary, adding: “Wow what a pile of s**** BGT is. Only watching as sick in bed but goodness me it’s chaotic. Put it out of its misery.”
“The worst show on TV by far,” a passionate sixth commenter penned. Someone simply said: “terrible.”
