The Big Brother winner was taken to the emergency department after suffering complications from a knee surgery that she underwent last week and has now updated fans
A Big Brother legend has been taken to hospital after suffering complications from a recent surgery.
The new series of Celebrity Big Brother got underway on Monday night and it saw stars like pop star Jojo Siwa, Jack P Shepherd, and Trisha Goddard step into the house. Actor Mickey Rourke rubbed viewers up the wrong way when he hit on host AJ Odudu, who recently broke her silence on the “encounter”.
Big Brother icon Regina Sorensen, known as Reggie Bird, won the Australian series of Big Brother twice – the first time in 2003 and the second in 2022. The 51-year-old also appeared on the recent series of Australia’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!.
The TV star was rushed to hospital on Monday (April 7) after suffering complications from a knee surgery that she had last week. She had 40 per cent of the cartilage removed from one side of her kneecap to replace what she had lost on the other side.
“Finally had my knee surgery,” she said in an update to fans on Instagram. “The chondral flap that was detached from under my knee cap and cartilage grinding away was finally fixed.
“It ended up being worse than they expected and had to shave off 40% of it from one side of the knee to the other. The surgeon also asked if I had any falls or trauma and I said yes I had an old man on a big mobility scooter mow me down in Woolworths about a year and a half ago…
“So it’s most likely came from that. It was a long day but it’s now done and I’m looking at a 4-6 week recovery.” Sharing her appreciation to the staff who helped her, she added: “Thank you to the staff at The Gold Coast University Hospital for looking after me”.
However, she was still suffering swelling in her foot and ankle, so Reggie spent the day in the emergency department at Gold Coast Hospital. She told fans on Tuesday (April 8): “It’s been six days after the surgery.
“Not feeling real crash hot, so I’ve rung the hospital to let them know that my ankle and foot is still really swollen since I’ve had the operation and my calf is hurting. Think I’ve got a deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in my leg and it’s the same vein that I’ve had a DVT in before.
“So they’ve told me I’ve got to come into emergency. Oh my god. It never ends. Fingers crossed everything is going to be okay.” She revealed her swollen leg in her video – the bandages on it had to be cut off so that doctors could take a look.
The star had to have blood tests, X-rays and an ultrasound on her knee and it was found that she had another DVT in her knee. DVT (deep vein thrombosis) is a blood clot in a vein, usually in the leg, which can be life-threatening if they travel to your lungs.
In her vlog from the hospital, she said: “Feel like s***. They’ve just found another DVT in my leg which sucks. So I’m just waiting to get my leg re-bandaged. Feels like it’s going to fall off.”
She said she had a DVT in the same leg a few years ago and that her knee operation had caused this new blood clot in her vein. She continued in her video: “The clot goes from ankle just to the bottom of my knee cap. The [doctors] said they were lucky that I took myself in there today. If it had of gone any higher than I would have been in trouble.”
“So yeah, it doesn’t end. I’m tired. Just always something. It never ever ever stops with me. I’ve got to go on blood thinners for six months and rest up. That was my day. Ready for bed, I’m buggered.”
