Nine-time Grammy winner Billie Eilish says she’s grown as an artist since her brother Finneas has started chasing his solo career – and she’s even been brave enough to ditch her parents on her current world tour
Siblings aren’t always better off together, so says Billie Eilish who reckons she’s stopped hiding behind brother Finneas.
For the first time in her career the star is touring without her producer bro and it’s boosted her confidence after years of feeling unworthy. Billie shared: “I’ve been writing music since I was 11 but because I wasn’t as fast at it, or it wasn’t as good as my brother, I kind of thought, ‘Oh I am not a songwriter’. “I did way more writing on this (current) album than anything ever.”
Billie’s tour returned to London’s O2 Arena last night and it’s also her first shows leaving her parents at home too, and they’re thrilled.
The Birds Of A Feather songstress spilled: “I’d never done a show without my brother in my whole life, I mean I have barely performed and sung without my brother, like ever.
“Honestly she [my mum] won’t admit it but I think it’s been really nice for her that I’ve been gone, and she can come see me but it’s not her whole life.
“I mean I have been her whole life for like 23 years now.”
Billie reckons she also sounds better having embarked on singing lessons which gave her more power than she thought.
She said: “My voice, I can’t express how gratifying and satisfying and fulfilling it has been to]learn these things about my own voice that is in my body that I didn’t even know I was capable of, it is so liberating!”
She added “being given that space” to explore her capabilities has enabled her to grow.
The UK Hit Me Hard And Soft tour continues into next week.
