Speculation surrounding the BRITS tonight suggested that a huge tribute to Liam Payne would take place following his untimely death last year – with sources now revealing what’s in store
Rumours about a tribute to Liam Payne at the BRITS have been swirling – with some fans suggesting One Direction could even reunite to show support.
The BRITS, taking place from 8.15pm on March 1 from the O2 Arena, London, often remember artists gone as well as those up for awards. It seemed natural that the ceremony would mention Liam following his untimely death in October after he fell from his hotel room balcony in Buenos Aires. But the question on how remained.
According to the Sun, an emotional video montage which will be played out on big screens inside London’s O2 Arena. This video will show moments from Liam’s life, including his time on the X Factor and with his fellow One Direction bandmates.
Jack Whitehall, who is presenting the evening, is thought to be leading the tribute. “The Brits have created a video package which celebrates how incredible Liam was,” the source revealed to the Sun.
“Jack was a friend of Liam’s and they think it would be fitting for him to introduce the montage, which takes in Liam’s life and career.” The clip is also thought to go into Liam’s solo career.
“It is an incredibly emotional watch but the Brits think what they have created will truly do Liam justice.”
The source also suggested that there was plenty of discussion on what to do for Liam. Apparently, there were thoughts that Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik could record something in tribute.
However, it was later decided it would do better justice to Liam to simply have a video montage. The viewers in the arena and at home will be encouraged to take a few minutes of quiet to remember him.
In the wake of Liam’s death, the members of One Direction were mourning their “brother.” His bandmates said they were “devastated” by his death in a joint message from the band’s long-dormant Instagram account. “The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever,” they wrote.
In their statement, the band members asked for privacy “to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly,” noting they would speak individually when they were ready. “For now, our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and the fans who loved him alongside us,” the band said. “We will miss him terribly.”
