Britain’s Got Talent in ‘set up’ row as fans slam ‘blatantly fake’ TV history moment

Britain’s Got Talent made TV history last night when audience member Max Fox got up on stage to sing. He ended up winning a golden buzzer in a magical moment but fans of the show are saying it is “blatantly fake”

TV history was made last night on Britain’s Got Talent when an audience member, desperate to perform, got up on stage to sing and ended up winning the golden buzzer.

‘Local singer’ Max Fox was sitting in the tenth row watching a night of acts see the red buzzers were going off like fireworks and in a moment of sudden inspiration, got up and shouted “Simon” across the hall.

He then said: “19 years I’ve tried to get in front of you and I’ve never had that chance. Can you give me one opportunity to show you what I’ve got?”

Simon Cowell, seemingly completely bewildered, asked Max if he was serious, to which he replied: “I feel like it’s my last time”.

The plucky performer was allowed on as the last audition of the show and sang an absolute belter — a rendition of Frank Sinatra’s ‘I Did It My Way’.

The judges were completely stunned and Amanda Holden pushed the golden buzzer (even though there were none left to give) as the crowd went wild and golden confetti covered the stage.

Buuuuuut… was it staged?

Immediately after the audition, X started to explode with BGT fans crying out that the whole thing was one big fat attention seeking, view-grabbing set up.

One angry X user wrote: “What Contrived C***.

“You expect people to believe he can’t get an audition after 19 years of trying, despite all the c***** acts shown week in week out, now he gets a Golden Buzzer?”

Another called out the fact that there was still confetti left in the golden buzzer cannon, despite there allegedly being no golden buzzers left.

They wrote: “You said you didn’t have any gold buzzers left to give, but for some reason you still have confetti. And that was the final act? Still not buying this was random.”

Another wrote: “Obviously a plant, are they saying in all those years he didn’t get through to perform in front of the judges with a voice like that (sing well) over the hundreds of novelty acts? (one who went on to win it) It was blatantly clear it was all set up for effect.”

However, many fans of the show do believe it was real.

One fan of Fantastic Mr Fox wrote: “It just goes to show how many talented contestants like Max never get through the auditions. There must be hundreds of talented acts out there.”

Another wrote: “Fantastic and so glad golden Buzzer act too.”

BGT put the video of the audition on YouTube and it has racked up over half a million views overnight.

People seem to have taken to YouTube to reassure doubters that it is in fact real.

One wrote: “This 100% real them judges knew nothing about this at all!! I have been friends and sang with max for years and he is mega talented, mega amazing and regardless of everything else he is definition of if you want something go and get it and he did, will enjoy every minute of it and most of all be fabulous xxx you go mate so proud xxx”

Max, himself, commented under the video, saying: “Thank you so much for your support. A few people have said this song means something to them.. the reason I chose this song is because I sang it at my grandads funeral and I truly believe he was present in this moment. Thanks so much for all your support I’m excited to see what the future holds.”
