Michelle Trachtenberg wowed fans in Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Gossip Girl, but in recent years she had been battling health issues before she was found dead this week
Buffy The Vampire Slayer icon Michelle Trachtenberg was found dead at the age of 39 on Wednesday.
The actress’ cause of death has not officially been announced, however it has been claimed that she underwent a liver transplant in recent months. It’s been reported she died of “natural causes”, with speculation being around potential complications from the op. Her boyfriend spoke out to say the family would not be commenting.
Fans of the Gossip Girl legend had voiced concern over her appearance in recent months. And in 2020, Michelle walked with a cane at an Oscars party in Los Angeles.
After her death, reports have emerged regarding Michelle’s health battle. It’s understood she had a liver transplant last year, and was experiencing complications from it.
According to TMZ, law enforcement sources claim her body may have rejected the new liver.
Michelle never spoke of any liver issues publicly. However she did open up about previous health issues.
Back in 2019, she was seen wearing a boot on her foot and using a cane to walk around that time too. However she didn’t reveal the cause of her injury.
She did share a defiant message at the time, though, saying: “Dear 2019. My broken ankle can still kick your a*** out the door. Cuz in 2020, I’m going to be 100% that b****.”
Later, in 2022, she showed her swollen ankle on Instagram, writing: “Nope this is not special effect makeup. When you fracture/break your ankle this bad. And foot. And pinky toe. And you still go to work. That is beast mode. How bout that swelling!”
Fans grew concerned for Michelle, who played villainous Georgina Sparks in Gossip Girl, due to her appearance. She hit back, insisting she was fine.
Replying to one concerned fan who said she looked “sick”, Michelle said: “Explain to me how I look sick. Did you lose a calendar and not realise I’m not 14. I’m 38. How sad for you to leave such a comment.”
She later added: “I’ve received several comments recently about my appearance. I have never had plastic surgery I am happy and healthy. Check yourself haters.”
