CBB Mickey Rourke’s changing face – smashed bones, painful ops and ‘wrong’ doctor

Actor Mickey Rourke went into the Celebrity Big Brother house on Monday, but left viewers in awe as he showed off his new face – which Daily Star reveals, has changed several times

Fans of Celebrity Big Brother were left astounded when Mickey Rourke walked into the house.

Hollywood legend Mickey, 51, was one of the last housemates to enter the iconic reality TV show on Monday (April 7), joining a host of other famous faces. However, things did not get off to a good start for the former boxer after he appeared to make a “creepy” comment towards host AJ Odudu.

But while he strutted his way into the house to stay for potentially the next three weeks, fans were left shocked at his sudden change in appearance. In particular, many were left blindsided by the actor’s face – which looked far different compared to his younger days.

So, as Mickey Rourke settles in for potentially three weeks of chaos, Daily Star looks at the star’s ever-changing face.

Fixing injuries

In an interview with the Daily Mail back in 2009, Mickey confirmed that he had undergone plastic surgery. However, he explained the procedures were needed following his boxing career.

“Most of it was to mend the mess of my face because of the boxing but I went to the wrong guy to put my face back together,” Mickey told the newspaper at the time. He also went on to describe the various bones he had broken while he was in the ring.

“I had my nose broken twice; I had five operations on my nose and one on a smashed cheekbone,” he recalled. However, his nose injuries carried on even into his acting career, revealing that he had gone under the knife following the release of Iron Man 2 in 2017.

Uploading a snap to his Instagram, the legendary actor posed in a hospital bed with his doctor, penning in the caption: “Moments after nose surgery with Dr. Dhir; now I am ‘pretty again’ – one more to go!”

Uncomfortable operations

In the same interview with the Daily Mail, Mickey added that some of the procedures he had done were particularly painful for him. He explained that he has had a number of various operations that left him searing with pain.

“I had to have cartilage taken from my ear to rebuild my nose and a couple of operations to scrape out the cartilage because the scar tissue wasn’t healing properly,” The Wrestler star confessed. “That was one of the most painful operations, but the worst was haemorrhoids.”

Former wife Debra Feuer also added that he had a host of other operations, including having “cheek implants”. Debra told The Mirror that he went under the knife for the procedure purely because he reportedly wanted to play his role in the 1990 smash Wild Orchid so bad, he was willing to do anything to land it.

“He told me he was swollen because he’d had his molar teeth removed,” she mused to the newspaper. “But I knew that was untrue – he didn’t have any molars to take out.”

Road to recovery

The star also had revealed during his boxing career that he had also suffered a host of other injuries while in the ring, which he fully retired from in 1995. This included the likes of broken toes and cheekbones, all of which left him requiring his face to be gradually reconstructed.

After making a comeback to the public eye, Mickey was able to return to the big screen – resulting in the actor landing a second resurgence in his acting career. In 2008, thanks to his role in The Wrestler, Mickey bagged himself a Golden Globe and a BAFTA for Best Actor.

This culminated in his lead role as the baddie in Iron Man 2, but he later blasted the final cut of the film, saying that much of his performance was edited out of the movie. He also slammed Marvel Studios for making the decision, saying the company only “wanted a one-dimensional bad guy”.

Celebrity Big Brother airs every Sunday to Friday at 9pm on ITV2.
