EXCLUSIVE: Celebrity Big Brother star Chris Hughes entered the house on 7 April and the former Love Islander’s body language says a great deal about his emotions and feelings
Celebrity Big Brother contestant Chris Hughes wears his heart on his sleeve.
The former Love Island star recently entered the Celebrity Big Brother house and the way he interacted with his co-stars is very telling about how he feels entering the reality TV show.
Speaking on behalf of casino.co.uk, body language expert Inbaal Honigman told Daily Star: “The pre-filmed introduction reveals Chris as quite different from many of the other celebs, as he uses much smaller gestures. He moves cautiously and even uses a smaller voice when he speaks – there are no ‘superstar’ moves showing.”
She noted that Chris “bolts out of the car and walked fast to the stage,” while “touching his face on the way up the stairs”. This shows that the former Love Islander “feels nervous” although “his smile is genuine”.
“Cheeks rounded to match his beaming mouth, so much so that his eyes appear damp. His wet eyes betray strong emotions, he can’t believe that he’s there.”
“As he ascends the stairs, Chris holds his hands up briefly, palms facing upwards. This signifies honesty and openness.”
After stepping on stage, Hughes was met by presenters AJ Odudu and Will Best but he was visibly “confused” with what to do with himself.
“Chris’s arms are confused as he stands between AJ and Will, they’re forming an O shape, as if he was about to hug the presenters, but the opportunity didn’t arise, so there he is, standing with his arms ready for an embrace, but not quite going for it.”
Eventually, Chris settled into his role: “Rushing down the walkway, he’s not giving himself a chance to think about those nerves. Then he turns around, and for the first time, engages in a showbiz body language display: hands are in the air, arms bent at the elbow, he’s smiling genuinely, and taking it all in.”
Even though the reality TV star has relaxed a little, Chris took a moment breathe and prepare himself before walking through the door: “Just before he steps in, he puts his hand briefly on his stomach – this shows discomfort. He’s so far out of his comfort zone, he doesn’t know how to behave.”
When faced with his new co-stars, Chris was warm and welcoming. The former Love Islander reached out and embraced them and Inbaal noticed that this could be a “self soothing” method.
“His hugs to the other housemates are largely happening for him to soothe himself. Human touch can be very comforting, and Chris gets cuddles from whoever he can.”
