Channel 4 star is ‘charged with rape and sexual assault’ of woman in hotel

A Channel 4 star has been “charged with rape and sexual assault” after allegedly attacking a woman at a pub and hotel in Oxfordshire back in September 2022

A Channel 4 star has been “charged with rape and sexual assault”.

James Catling, who appeared on George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces, allegedly attacked a woman at a pub and hotel in Great Tew, Oxfordshire.

The alleged incident is said to have happened back in September 2022 and was arrested on 1 October 2024, later released under investigation.

He appeared on the property show back in April of this year in scenes that highlighted his Airstream caravan refurbishment company.

In March Catling was charged by post with one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault. He appeared at Oxford magistrates court on Tuesday [29 April].

He was released on bail under the condition he does not contact the alleged victim and is expected to appear at Oxford crown court next month.

During his episode of Amazing Spaces, Catling added 800 parts, which cost almost £40,000, to his 1947 campervan.

He’d previously flown to the US to buy the vehicle before travelling back to the UK and host George Clarke told the campervan owner that it looked “brand new”.

The presenter also complimented Catling’s efforts and compared the van to the “inside of a luxury private jet” before stating it was “the best Airstream restoration project he’d ever seen”.

According to reports, Catling has since listed the campervan on eBay for a whopping £120,000.

The programme has been airing since 2012 and follows George Clarke as he travels across the country, visiting unique properties that owners have done up.

A number of people featured on the show have made the most of unconventional spaces such as boats, or in Catling’s case a van, and turned them into liveable spaces.
