Why I Stuck A Flare Up My A*** For England, which is returning to the Edinburgh Fringe, is based on the infamous moment from the Euros in 2021 when a fan of the Three Lions put a lit flare up his backside

The broadcaster praised it as a “great play”

Chris Kamara will feature in a play about an England fan who shoved a lit flare up his bum.

Why I Stuck A Flare Up My A*** For England is based on the notorious moment from the Euros in 2021.

Pundit Kammy, along with TV presenter Ben Shephard, have recorded segments to feature in the play when it returns to the Edinburgh Fringe next month.

The pair, who will play themselves as radio hosts, said: “We have both loved supporting England through the highs and sadly too many lows – although luckily we never felt the need to use flares on any parts of our anatomy to get over the pain of loss.”

Proceeds from the performances will go to the mental health charity CALM.

“Being part of this great play and supporting such an important cause as CALM definitely makes the flare look more attractive,” the broadcasters added.

The infamous scene saw fan Charlie Perry put the firework up his jacksie in London’s Leicester Square before the England vs Italy final at Wembley.

Actor Alex Hill used it as inspiration to create a one-man show in which he recreates the story through the character of “Billy”.

He will take it to the Fringe for a third and final time in August.

The performer said: “I’m absolutely thrilled that Ben and Chris are joining the show.

“Bum Flare Play has taken me and everyone who’s worked on it on an incredible journey over the past few years, and to have two of the nation’s most beloved TV and sporting personalities feature in our final Edinburgh Fringe run is the perfect way to round it off.”

He previously suggested that the play could make a TV drama that would appeal to a wide audience.

The Brentford fan also said that he wrote the show after visiting Wembley before England lost to Italy in the Euros 2021 final.
