Another Coronation Street star has left the cobbles.

Fans of the ITV soap watched Yasmeen Nazir officially leave the Street behind after 11 years during Monday night’s (March 10) episode. It was previously reported that actress Shelley King would be leaving Corrie this year after over a decade playing Yasmeen.

Shelley, who first appeared on the soap in 2014, is one of many stars either rumoured or confirmed to be exiting Corrie. Just some of these include Craig Tinker star Colson Smith, Eileen Grimshaw star Sue Cleaver and Daisy Midgeley star Charlotte Jordan.

During her time as Yasmeen, she has been a part of some of the show’s biggest storylines, including the horrific abuse at the hands of her husband Geoff Metcalfe. She left Weatherfield for London during the first edition of Corrie this week.

Yasmeen sat down her granddaughter Alya in the Rovers to tell her she had landed a job at a charity. She said: “I had a call from the charity, someone dropped out and they want me to start immediately.”

The Speed Daal owner said: “I can’t just leave, and I don’t have anywhere to live down there.” However, Alya (Sair Khan) told her that she could stay with grandson Zeedan until she’s and that she would look after the restaurant until her share is sold.

Yasmeen returned to the Rovers after packing to tell Alya that she’d managed to sell her share of Speed Daal to Leanne Battersby. Alya said: “Leanne?” with some confusion before her new business partner replied with a huge smile: “Hiya, partner!”

Later in the restaurant, Yasmeen bid her friends a fond farewell as they gathered around her, telling them “I’m going to miss you all,” adding: “You’ve been my true friends.”

It was then Alya who helped her to the car to say their final goodbyes. “Will you please look after my plants, just until I can get my own place and move everything down?” Yasmeen enquired before remembering her beloved chickens, with Alya vowing to take care of them.

“We have had some trying times on this street,” Yasmeen admitted before Alya said: “Dad dying, Grandad going, all that stuff with Zeedan.” Yasmeen added: “And Geoff,” before Alya declared: “We survived it all.”

Yasmeen said: “We survived it together, you’ve always been my rock. Are you sure you’re OK with me selling my share to Leanne?”. Yasmeen said: “Time to go, be good. I love you.”

A source previously told The Sun of Shelley’s exit: “This will be another blow for fans of the show, as Yasmeen is a much-loved character who’s part of the fabric of Corrie. She’s had some huge storylines since she joined the soap in 2014, and she’ll be sorely missed by cast and crew. It’s understood she is leaving so she can explore other projects.”

Yasmeen first arrived on Corrie with her first husband Sharif, their son Kal and their two grandchildren. Tragedy hit when Kal was killed in a fire, and her marriage to Sharif broke down when he had an affair.

She later married Geoff Metcalfe in 2019, but she ended up stabbing him in the neck after his constant abuse. She was charged with attempted murder but found not guilty.
