Gail Chadwick made a dramatic exit from ITV’s Coronation Street on Christmas Day but it may look like she could be making a comeback sooner than viewers anticipated
Coronation Street’s loyal fanbase could be set for a treat as one of it’s acting legends could be set to return to the cobbles.
Viewers may be getting an update on how Gail Chadwick is faring after her gut-wrenching departure from Weatherfield, with next week’s spoilers hinting at a long-awaited update, mere months following her emotional exit.
ITV actress Helen Worth took her final bow from the ITV favourite on December 25, 2024, after an incredible half-century stint as her beloved character.
The legendary Platt matriarch, Gail, bid adieu to her loved ones for a sunnier horizon in France alongside Jesse Chadwick, her sixth groom in what marked her seventh walk down the aisle on the cobbles.
Turbulence hit before her wedding could even begin, with familial meddling and relentless pandemonium leaving Gail second-guessing another trip to the altar. However, a spectral visit from her deceased former spouse and notorious bad egg Richard Hillman pivoted her fears, pushing her to cling onto Jesse.
Amidst the commotion that saw Gail’s first-born, Nick, nabbed for fraud and near-bans of her own mum Audrey from attending, the Platt clan’s figurehead managed to muster a heartfelt ‘I Do’, surrounded by poignant goodbyes from her offspring and neighbours, reports the Manchester Evening News.
Helen’s final episode saw Gail ride off into her sunset narrative, forsaking her roots at No. 8.
As the newly minted Chawicks embarked upon their fresh start, Jesse’s query to his bride, “Are you ready Mrs Chadwick?” was met with Gail’s affirmative response: “Ready as I’ll ever be, Mr Chadwick,” whilst the familiar street bade them farewell.
She missed the whole ordeal of her son David, who was caught in a downward spiral after crossing paths with jailed mobster Harvey Gaskell. After nicking Harvey’s cash, David found himself plotting his own demise with ex-con Andy Garland.
Jack P Shepherd’s portrayal of David saw him narrowly escape his self-inflicted end, but not without dire repercussions for Daisy Midgeley. She was tragically involved in a hit and run that led to the loss of her baby.
Fast forward to the present drama in Weatherfield, and David is on a mission to mend fences. Next week, he and Shona are back from visiting Gail, ready for a fresh start.
Fresh spoilers reveal that upon their return from seeing Gail, David and Shona let themselves into Sarah Platt’s flat, only to find Kit Green stepping out of the bathroom in just a towel, which leaves David seething.
A heated argument ensues between David and Sarah about her choice in blokes, with Kit struggling to keep his cool after previous clashes with the snippy hairdresser.
This storyline twist follows fan speculation about Gail’s absence amidst a series of calamities befalling David and the Platts, including a fire at their family home.
And it seems there’s hope for Gail’s fans, as show execs have expressed interest in bringing Helen Worth back for special cameos. Iain MacLeod, Executive Producer, shared with the Daily Star’s Hot TV column: “Helen and I have had a conversation where she said, ‘There might be times in my future where I’ll come back’.
“If there’s a big storyline going on with the Platt family, she might want to come in and play a role in that. We certainly wanted to leave the door open so that was possible. We wanted that to still be on the cards.”
He believes that fans would embrace Helen’s occasional returns. He remarked: “It will be a real treat for viewers if the opportunity arises for Helen to pop in here and there. She could play a role in some big moments.”
