Coronation Street star Andy Whyment was one of 80,000 fans that gathered in the Manchester’s Heaton Park on Friday night to see Noel, 58, reunite with younger brother Liam, 52
Coronation Street’s Andy Whyment had a blast meeting his music idol Noel Gallagher at an Oasis gig. The 44-year-old soap actor, best known for his role as Kirk Sutherland on the ITV show since 2000, was in attendance at the first Heaton Park concert of the month, watching the Champagne Supernova performers live.
Andy was among the 80,000 fans who flocked to the north Manchester park on Friday night to witness Noel, 58, reunite with younger brother Liam Gallagher, 52, and perform their greatest hits. Thanks to his own celebrity status and his I’m A Celebrity! mate Shaun Ryder, the ITV star managed to get backstage and meet Noel before the show.
But it wasn’t just the singer that Andy got to mingle with; he also snapped a selfie with Manchester City footballer Jack Grealish, 29, and spent time with his telly friend Shaun, 62. On Saturday, Andy took to Instagram to share a series of photos and video clips from his thrilling night out.
The first image in his collection showed him standing next to Noel, hand resting on the rocker’s shoulder, sporting a broad grin, clearly chuffed to meet the star.
In the accompanying caption, he wrote: “@oasis are my favourite band and last night at Heaton Park I got to meet my idol Noel Gallagher. I can’t thank my mate @shaunryderx enough for getting us friends and family passes, I’ve seen Oasis a couple of times before but last night was a real pinch myself moment for me and @nicski31,” reports the Mirror.
Oasis is set to perform four more nights at the venue, including tonight, and the Corrie star assured fans they’re in for a treat. He ended his post by writing: “If you’ve got tickets you’re in for a treat they sound amazing. OASIS ARE BACK!!!!”
His social media update included a selfie with footballer Jack who replied in the comments of the post, saying: “What a man you are.”
Many others responded to the posts expressing their envy that the soap actor had the chance to experience such an extraordinary night.
This month, Oasis will be performing five shows in front of a home crowd at Heaton Park, with performances scheduled for July 11, 12, 16, 19 and 20. The venue opens at 3pm on the dates of the performances, with the music starting promptly at 6pm.
The iconic Britpop band Cast will be the first to take the stage, entertaining the 80,000 strong crowd with an hour-long set, followed by Richard Ashcroft at 7pm. At 8.15pm, Liam and Noel will take to the stage with their band to perform a selection of their hits.
After two successful shows in Wales earlier this month, reviewers attending the first of the Manchester shows on Friday 11 July noted that the boys had comfortably slipped into their showman roles. The brothers interact with the crowd, sing side-by-side, duet and encourage the audience to join in on epic songs like Champagne Supernova.
The show concludes with a grand fireworks display, followed by crowds flooding the streets of Manchester, filling the city with song.
The Oasis Live ’25 Tour will keep Liam and Noel and their band occupied until year’s end, with a total of 41 nights on the road. Their final performance is scheduled for 23 November, when the brothers will wrap up their tour with a closing concert at the MorumBIS stadium in São Paulo, Brazil.
