Dancing On Ice axe confirmed after 19 years on air as ITV confirms why

Dancing On Ice has been axed as ITV confirm future of the show.

The TV channel has revealed the show will end after 19 years on air, which explains why host Holly Willoughby appeared so upset on air.

ITV bosses have confirmed that the show, which first aired in 2006, has drawn it’s curtains after viewing figures dwindled to below 3million for the 2025 series.

An ITV spokesperson said: “Following another successful series earlier this year, Dancing On Ice will be rested in 2026 with no current plans for another series.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the cast and crew who have worked on the show since 2006, and over the previous 17 series, for all of their hard work both on and off the ice.”

With the confirmation coming through of the cancellation, this now means that host Holly Willoughby no longer has any active show ties with ITV for the first time since 2004.

Holly first started off at the channel back in 2004 when she started on CITV’s Ministry of Mayhem.

An insider also told The Mirror that the show was going to be dropped after it fell to it’s lowest-ever ratings, in comparison to 12million in it’s heyday.

The source said: “It’s had a good run for nearly 20 years and has a very loyal set of viewers who really love it but the sad truth is there’s just not enough of them – the ratings have dropped to a point where it’s difficult to justify the cost.”

With viewing figures falling and the show not being cheap to run considering of the many six-figure sums for the celebrity talent.

ITV also pays out big fees to hosts Holly and Stephen, plus the 12 professional ice-skaters and four members of the judging panel, which includes Torvill and Dean plus former Strictly star Oti Mabuse and fellow dance expert Ashley Banjo.
