David Walliams enjoys sun-soaked Maldives trip after claims he was dropped by publisher

David Walliams appeared to be soaking up the sun on holiday after it was alleged the TV personality and author was dropped by his publishing house HarperCollins

David Walliams posed for a series of sun-soaked holiday snaps from a luxury Maldives resort as it was alleged the former Britain’s Got Talent star was dropped by his publishing house.

The children’s writer, 54, will no longer have any fresh titles released by the publishing house after what it termed “careful consideration” under new management. It was alleged that the decision came after claims that he harassed female staff members. He was accused of “harassing” female workers at the publishing house, as reported by The Telegraph.

According to his agent, “David has never been informed of any allegations raised against him by HarperCollins. He was not party to any investigation or given any opportunity to answer questions. David strongly denies that he has behaved inappropriately and is taking legal advice”

Despite the allegations, it is understood that one of the most successful children’s authors in the UK is currently on a sunny getaway in the Maldives.

There, he appeared in a series of seemingly sponsored Instagram posts. He could be seen enjoying afternoon tea while tagging the Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa resort.

In other pictures and videos he was scuba diving with a turtle with a James Bond theme playing in the background. He captioned the activity a “dream”.

A second post is captioned “floating in heaven” while a third describes the resort as his “new favourite place in the world” and “complete and utter perfection”.

To stay at the resort, guests can expect to fork out around £4,563.

A HarperCollins spokesperson confirmed the move to drop Walliams, stating: “After careful consideration, and under the leadership of its new CEO, HarperCollins UK has decided not to publish any new titles by David Walliams. The author is aware of this decision.

“HarperCollins takes employee wellbeing extremely seriously and has processes in place for reporting and investigating concerns. To respect the privacy of individuals we do not comment on internal matters.”

Walliams initially gained recognition over two decades ago via Little Britain, before transforming himself into a children’s author in 2008. Since that time, he has penned over 40 books and collections of short stories, with sales exceeding 60 million copies worldwide.

Walliams departed Britain’s Got Talent following leaked transcripts that revealed inappropriate remarks he made about contestants during London Palladium auditions in early 2020.

He subsequently issued an apology, expressing regret for the “disrespectful comments” and maintaining they formed part of a private discussion that was “never intended to be shared”.
