GB News presenter and former This Morning host Eamonn Holmes got a frosty reception from some attendees as he accepted the Best News award at the 2025 TRIC Awards
Eamonn Holmes was reportedly booed by attendees at the TRIC Awards 2025.
The 65-year-old GB News anchor received a mixed reaction from the audience at the TRIC Awards on Tuesday night (June 24). The TV star, who split from wife Ruth Langsford last year, has suffered health issues for years and took to the stage in a wheelchair.
Eamonn collected the News award on behalf of his GB News Breakfast show and used a wheelchair ramp to access the stage during the ceremony at London’s Grosvenor House. He expressed gratitude to the production team and viewers, but it’s said audible boos were heard after GB News Breakfast was announced.
Eamonn delivered a touching tribute to fellow presenter Charli Peters, who had won the News Presenter award for his investigative work on grooming gangs in the UK. But the end of his speech was interrupted, the Mirror reports, as someone in the audience heckled for Eamonn to ‘get off’.
It’s not known whether Eamonn heard the heckling but he seemed upbeat and posed for pics at the event with stars like Laura Hamilton. He thanked all those who voted for them, adding: “For the thousands of people who voted, that is brilliant for us so we say thank you, thank you, thank you, to anyone who did bother to vote.”
It’s the second year running that Eamonn has accepted the TRIC News award. Last year, he made his appearance with the aid of a walker and hinted at personal challenges, stating: “So I got two things in my back that I didn’t want,” seemingly referencing his medical procedure and his recent split from Ruth.
A source who was present at the TRIC Awards has claimed that nobody booed Eamonn and that instead people applauded him. They told the Metro that “no one booed” and that “people applauded him”.
A source had told MailOnline: “After it was announced that GB News Breakfast had won, there were a few boos around the room. Due to his wheelchair, Eamonn needed a ramp to get up on the stage.
“He gave a moving speech about the work of colleague Charlie Peters, who had earlier won news presenter for his work on exposing grooming gangs in Britain. It was a nice moment seeing Eamonn pay tribute to a fellow news presenter, but it seemed someone in the audience didn’t agree. They heckled for Eamonn to “get off,” and it was an awkward end to his speech.
Eamonn has been living with chronic back pain and mobility issues for the last few years and often uses a wheelchair or crutches to get around. The pain was caused by a dislocated pelvis.
The former ITV host had double hip replacement surgery in 2016 and admits delaying the op was the “word decision” he ever made. He had been suffering from hip, leg and back pain which was causing him sleepless nights.
The star discovered he had three slipped discs which were limiting the movement in his right leg, meaning he had to walk with a stick. He had epidural injections to manage his pain, saying they ‘helped to a degree but didn’t cure the problem’.
He then got spinal surgery in September 2022. He said of the op: “It went well – the doctor tidied things up and generally the pain has gone which is brilliant. The flip side is that it has now left me with an issue in my left leg, which would collapse unexpectedly.”
Unfortunately, the issues with his left leg led to several falls. While recovering from surgery, Eamonn fell down 18 stairs at his Surrey home and broke his shoulder – and got surgery for this.
“I just went back down the stairs, boom, boom, boom down the whole staircase until I hit the stone floor in the hallway,” he told Mail Online at the time. “Blood was pouring out my mouth and a bone was sticking out my shoulder.”
In 2023, Eamonn underwent a spine and neck stretching procedure, after admitting he couldn’t walk and that he hadn’t recovered from his back surgery. He has tried physiotherapy, back stretches and ice-cold showers, but Eamonn has admitted he’s worried he will never walk again unaided.
“I have tried every treatment but you go: ‘Maybe I’ll never get out of it,’ which is a harsh reality to face,” he said.
