EXCLUSIVE: Netflix and Celebrity Big Brother star Bradley Riches is weeks away from appearing on Emmerdale, and fans know nothing about his new, mysterious character
Netflix star Bradley Riches is just weeks away from appearing on Emmerdale. But the details of his mysterious character are being kept under wraps.
The Celebrity Big Brother star, who completed the London Landmarks Half Marathon on Sunday for charity Autistica, was announced to be joining the ITV soap earlier this year.
Not much is known about the character he will play, but his first scenes are set to air in May.
Speaking to Daily Star, Bradley, 23, gave a hint at what was to come and spoke of his time on the set of the Yorkshire-based soap so far.
“With my character, it’s expecting the unexpected,” he teased. “He’s full of surprises.”
Bradley told us: “I’m really excited for the stories that are going to be told and my character as well.”
The new role is a big one personally for Brad, too. He told us: “I’m really excited because it was my grandad’s favourite soap, so to do in his memory, it was good.
“He passed, and I was then given the opportunity for an audition.
“I don’t believe all that stuff, but when something like that happens, it’s quite hard to not believe it was kind of given from him.”
He went on: “I’m very grateful. Everyone’s so lovely.
“I’m really excited for it to come on the screen. But it’s gone so quickly, I’ve already done a month filming.”
Sadly, the exciting moment was slightly tainted by cruel trolling online. Luckily, Brad didn’t let it affect him too much.
“Going through different jobs – Heartstopper and then Big Brother and Emmerdale – you’re obviously being opened up to new audiences, new people,” he said. “I always thought it was going to happen, which is just the world we live in sadly.
“But with Heartstopper, people choose to go and watch that and are very loving of it. It’s an uplifting, queer community fan base.
“Then I went on Big Brother, there was a little bit of negativity because I’m on people’s screens, Big Brother fans who might not want me on their screens and that’s not on me, that’s on them.
“Then Emmerdale was a whole new audience of soap fans. There were negatives but there was the positivity and the love did drown it out.”
He said: “I don’t really like just sitting back and watching it. I like to say something.
“People judge on preconceptions, like ‘Oh god, he’s irritating.’ I was like, I’m gonna be acting as a character. If you don’t like me, that doesn’t matter, I’m not not me I’m playing someone else.
“So it was just a bit personal. But they were hating on my character before they even knew him, which is just one of those things.”
