The second M3GAN film’s trailer has been released and horror fans can’t believe that one key aspect of the franchise has changed so dramatically – but they’re all “obsessed” with the switch
Horror fans are stunned with M3GAN 2.0’s trailer for one simple reason.
A first look at the upcoming film was recently released and fans have gathered online to point out something that has changed the franchise entirely.
The trailer, which shows M3GAN trapped in a blue robot as she tries to bring down a taller, newer version of herself, was posted on YouTube and horror fans gathered in the comment section to discuss the sequel. One person wrote: “The switch from horror to action is actually insane. I’m all in for this.”
“At this point, this is no longer gonna be a horror movie. This is basically like a sci-fi action film and I’m all here for it,” pointed out another fan.
Someone else said: “Yo from horror to action IS CRAZY,” while a fourth chimed in: “So keeping the tradition of transitioning from horror to action with the sequel….I freaking love it, let’s go!!!”
Others joked that the robot was “slaying while slaying” with her dance moves and that “the queen is back.”
Some people even praised the trailer’s choice of song: “I’m obsessed with the way they using the “Oops! I Did It Again” song from Britney Spears. What a right song choice!”
Although M3GAN 2.0 is described as a “horror/sci-fi,” fans are convinced that the new film’s tone will be more of an action comedy.
The second movie will star Jenna Davis returning as M3GAN, Violet McGraw as Cady, Allison Williams as Gemma and many other names including Ivanna Sakhno.
M3GAN 2.0 takes place two years after the events of the first film when the “marvel of artificial intelligence went rogue”. Her creator Gemma has joined the government, overseeing AI while a defence contractor has created a military-grade weapon branded Amelia.
Set for release on June 27, the film was directed by Gerard Johnstone and distributed by Universal Pictures.
Many fans of the franchise may not know that another film is in the works. SOULM8TE is a spin-off and reportedly follows an adult companion robot.
The third film’s release date is expected to be 2 January 2026 and will reportedly star Lily Sullivan, David Rysdahl, Claudia Doumit and Oliver Cooper. Insidious director James Wan will also be helping with production.
