His sister and fellow band member, Deniece Pearson, 56, spilled the details to PA news agency, sharing: “He died on March 10, he was on dialysis and he had diabetes.”

The family issued an emotional statement saying: “We are very saddened to say on this day – our beloved son / brother Stedman Pearson Jr has passed. He was a gentleman to the very end – in every way and an amazing son/brother and uncle. May the memories and love he gave to us and the world be our greatest comfort! He will be deeply missed.”

Stedman shot to stardom with Five Star around 40 years back, tearing up the charts with his younger siblings – including Deniece. Siblings Lorraine Pearson, 57, Doris Pearson, 58, and Delroy Pearson, 54, completed the band, masterminded by their dad-come-manager Buster Pearson, reports the Mirror.

Bagging six UK Top 10 hits, Five Star sent fans wild with their Jackson 5-esque grooves and flashy dance moves.

The group’s first big splash ‘Luxury of Life’ landed in record shops in 1985, a mere two years after they formed as a group. Among its tracks was ‘System Addict,’ which soared its way to Number 3, becoming one of their most iconic tunes.

Their second album, Silk and Steel, stormed to the top of the charts in 1986, featuring hits like The Slightest Touch and Find the Time. It also included Rain or Shine, their highest charting single that peaked at Number 2.

In 1987, the talented siblings bagged a BRIT Award for Best British Group, beating stiff competition from the likes of Eurythmics and Pet Shop Boys. They even performed their hit Can’t Wait Another Minute at the awards ceremony held at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel.

Since then, the siblings have dropped several albums and a slew of singles, continuing to perform together over the years, even as a quartet, after initially disbanding in 1995.

Stedman showcased his ballet prowess on Channel 5’s All Star Talent Show in 2006, finishing third. Two years later, he appeared on BBC Three’s Celebrity Scissorhands, a reality show where celebs tried their hand at hairdressing to raise funds for BBC Children In Need.

He also featured on Never Mind The Buzzcocks in a segment where panellists had to pick out the singer from a line-up.

Following the sad announcement that Stedman Pearson has passed away, fans have flocked to social media to honour his memory. In touching tributes, one person shared: “Woke up to learn of my friends passing…… HE was one of the gentlest and lovely people I knew.. an awesome dancer with just a childlike zest for life…. you made a huge difference to my life and will be missed muchly ! ! !”

Meanwhile, another heartbroken fan posted on X, expressing their sorrow: “Was hoping this wasn’t true but I think it sadly is. Anyone who knows me know how much I love Five Star; my childhood was a magical time thanks to their music, mesmerising dance routines and of course the incredible costumes. Such a sad loss. RIP Stedman Pearson.”
