Curvy Gemma Collins has made her name from promoting body confidence and loving yourself at every size, but behind the scenes she shockingly turned to secret weight loss surgery
Gemma Collins has confessed how secret weight loss surgery left her fearful for her life and health, after she was left unable to even drink water.
The bubbly blonde TOWIE star is known for her curvaceous figure and for talking about body confidence, but behind the scenes she has been going through a lot as she had desperately tried to lose some weight over the years. She went as far as to have a secret gastric balloon operation which left her fearing she might die.
She told The Sun about how years spent trying to conceive had left her tortured and determined to do whatever it takes to improve her health. Gemma, 44, says she weighed more than 23st at her heaviest and was a size 26.
Many fans have always thought Gemma was confident at every size, but it couldn’t be further from the truth. The reality star has revealed he has now lost two stone and dropped two dress sizes after turning to Mounjaro jabs.
She said she was sick of fad diets and is aiming to be a size 16 by the summer, all in the hope of having a much-wanted baby. She said: “I think I’ll give birth to twins next year!” She said the jabs have made her weight loss “completely effortless” and said she just doesn’t “want to eat anymore.”
Gemma started taking the jabs in November, after confessing she has struggled with her weight “all my life” and had “tried everything” to shift the unwanted pounds.
She went down the surgical route previously, and went under the knife to have a gastric balloon fitted, called an Obalon Balloon. TOWIE star Gemma recalls how unwell she was after the procedure, which she says she underwent after experiencing horrific bullying from trolls online.
“”It was scary. I should never have done it… I thought I was going to die. I could not get out of bed,” she admits of the terrifying time. “”The pain in my stomach… because it was like a foreign body in my belly.”
She added: “I couldn’t even drink water. I’ll never forget that feeling of needing to drink and I couldn’t – it was making me violently sick.
“I rang the hospital saying, ‘I need this out now because otherwise I will die.’” She had the device removed, and has since started using the injections.
Gemma reckons she’s far from the only celeb to be using the jab, but says most stars won’t admit to how they’ve really lost the weight. For Gemma personally though, it was when she hit 40 that her weight started to upset her.
She was finding walking difficult at her heaviest, and said she was feeling fed up. Over the years she has tried everything from a £5,000 a week “juice camp” in Portugal, to hypnosis and Ozempic.
She then lost around three stone while competing in Dancing on Ice in 2019 but put it all back on and more. She says the jabs are also helping with her other health conditions like PCOS and an underactive thyroid.
