GMB’s Charlotte Hawkins interrupts ITV show with jaw-dropping ‘breaking news’

ITV host Charlotte Hawkins interrupted Good Morning Britain to deliver breaking news on the UK economy, as the Office for National Statistics (ONS) revealed figures

Charlotte Hawkins from Good Morning Britain dropped a bombshell on viewers today with another breaking news update.

In today’s episode (March 14), while Kate Garraway and Rob Rinder were dishing out the main stories, Charlotte swooped in with hot-off-the-press figures that showed a bit of a stumble in our financial fitness.

Charlotte interrupted the show, announcing: “Good morning and breaking news. In just the last few moments, official figures that have just been released show the UK economy shrank by 0.1 percent in January, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS). It was largely driven by a slowdown in manufacturing.”

This gloomy ONS report, revealing a 0.1 percent shrinkage in January’s economy, is not exactly music to the ears of Chancellor Rachel Reeves as she gears up for her big spring statement.

Experts were crossing their fingers for a 0.1 percent GDP bump in January, but got served a downturn instead, following December’s 0.4 percent uptick. This shocker lands as Kate had to swiftly move things along on the show recently, after the crew had to jump in mid-broadcast, as per the Manchester Evening News scoop, reports the Mirror.

Just yesterday, on Thursday (March 13), Kate and her sidekick Ed Balls were nattering about some feisty hawks stirring up trouble with locals in a Hertfordshire village.

Ranvir Singh, her co-host, was buzzing with theories about the bird of prey’s species and motives. Amidst the lively chat, Kate couldn’t resist saying: “She’s all over this!” This prompted Ed to laugh and say: “All these theories going around this morning!”.

As the crew signalled for a segment change, Kate admitted: “The producers are saying to ‘move on’ but I’d be quite happy to talk about this all morning, I’m fascinated here!”.

Ed playfully retorted: “Or… if we wait long enough, the hawk will appear!” Meanwhile, the troublesome hawk has been causing havoc in Flamstead, Hertfordshire, targeting tall men for its swooping attacks, with the count now up to around 20.

In other telly news, host Kate is swapping her ITV sofa for Channel 4’s kitchen because she’s joining The Great Celebrity Bake Off For Stand Up To Cancer.

Preparing for the BBC baking battle, Kate said: “I’ve never really done it. I love cooking and always seem to know how to combine ingredients to make something delicious but that’s different because you can taste it as you go. Baking is a different ball game entirely.

“You take egg and flour and butter, that taste and look like one thing on their own, then put them together and they create something completely different. Baking is alchemy.

“So, I don’t think I’ve come out proving myself a Merlin, but I’m hoping not to be the Wicked Witch of the West.”
