Gogglebox star marries girlfriend of nine years after quitting show for politics career

Former Gogglebox star Josh Tapper has married his girlfriend, Hannah, after dating for nine years. The 27-year-old TV personality was one of the original cast members on the Channel 4 hit show

Former Gogglebox favourite Josh Tapper has tied the knot with his long-time love, Hannah, after a nine-year romance.

The 27-year-old telly personality, known for his stint on the hit Channel 4 series alongside his family, including younger sister Amy, exited the show in 2017 to take up a prestigious role at the Cabinet Office.

The big news of Josh’s nuptials was spilled by his sister, Amy, who took to social media to share snaps and clips from the fabulous family affair. Bubbling with joy, Amy penned: “The New Mr and Mrs Tapper! No words to describe this incredible day from start to finish..”

She added: “I’d say welcome to the family @hannahtapper_ but you’ve been a part of it for 9 years now… this just means officially forever. I love you both more than words will ever describe @joshtapper.”

The wedding album featured Josh and his bride, Hannah, beaming alongside his folks, Jonathan and Nikki, and getting down to the traditional Jewish boogie, the horah. Josh shot to fame as one of the original faces of Gogglebox when it launched in 2013, but he decided to bid adieu to the couch in 2017 after snagging a Civil Service apprenticeship, reports the Mirror.

Back then, an insider dished to The Mirror: “Channel 4 will, of course, keep the door open for him but it’s a really exciting opportunity for him. It’s a much-coveted job. Josh has already started having meetings within No.10.”

In a bold career switch, Josh took the plunge into the political arena in 2022, announcing his bid to become a Labour MP. He was chosen as the candidate for Hertsmere and couldn’t hide his enthusiasm on X, the platform that’s taken over from Twitter: “I’m thrilled and honoured to have been selected as Labour’s parliamentary candidate for Hertsmere.

“Thank you so much to local members for your support – I won’t let you down. The work to unseat the Deputy Prime Minister starts now!”

Last year saw Josh step up as the Labour hopeful, aiming to dethrone Oliver Dowden from his parliamentary perch. Despite Dowden’s grip on the seat since 2019, Josh faced defeat, trailing by 7,992 votes.

A fresh face in the Labour Party since Sir Keir Starmer took the reins, Josh first hit the reality TV scene at the tender age of 15. Chatting with Jewish News in 2022, he reminisced how it all “suddenly blew up out of nowhere”.

He added: “I spent the next five years living that life while also trying to live a normal life. But I was the guy who was on TV. My days were long as we were filming the scenes in addition to school.”

Before diving into politics, Josh put in time at a food bank and didn’t mince words about the Tories, accusing them of having “driven our country into the ground”. With his sights set on a political future, Mr Tapper faces an uphill battle to flip a substantial majority.

In the 2019 elections, Mr Dowden secured the seat with a 16,951 lead, though this was a dip from over 21,000 just two years prior.
